The press are a power to themselves, they rile people up, by tweaking the truth just enough to get faux outrage. By the end of the World Cup, they’ll have everyone kicking & screaming on social media about something else. It’s too little, too late to start protesting & the media saying this & that, as Klopp said, it should have been contested years ago. Let them get on with it now. Let’s hope for a peaceful tournament, where football makes the headlines & nothing in the background. We’ve seen what outside interference causes in so many countries, so just let them be.

Agree. Good comment from Klopp. And Southgate and the players should make it happen. Not just because it isn't their job, but also to relieve the totally unnecessary pressure they put on themselves by allowing themselves to get involved. Easily done, just stonewall every such question, commenting along the lines of "we're here to play football, not as politicians or representatives of FIFA and the other football authorities, our personal views remain personal, - ask your questions to them not me". It really could be that easy. As others have said, it should then also rightly mean no more meaningless, stupid, 'pissy' gestures and symbols (like the rainbows, armbands, the knee, etc). Just play and talk football and leave the rest to those whose job it really is.
I hope for peaceful tournament, but hoping the media behave themselves is like hoping I win the euro lottery anytime soon. Should we go ahead and win yes there will always be a feeling that we won a dirty tournament. People still say we only won the 66 because it was played in England. Oh well, go on and win it boys, it's all you can do now.
So the press shouldn’t report on anything which isn’t hunky dory? It should be like Pravda in Soviet times where air crashes, the biggest football stadium disaster and other occurrences remained unknown to those unaffected by it?
Apparently some England fans have already been arrested for singing “get your face out for the lads” to a woman in a hijab
Of course. Wouldn’t want to restrict the HDM’s exagerrations and sensationalism of events at City games, would we?
Maybe just for this thread we should stick to world Cup games, rather than anything to do with Hull...
I’ll be happy if Southgate uses an appropriate moment to make an appropriate comment, but no problem if he doesn’t say anything about the location. If he doesn’t feel a comment will help him do his job, then fine, if he feels a comment will help his players who feel strongly, that’s fine too. His job is to manage a football team. Let him do it. We literally pay politicians a wage to make decisions around which countries we should trade with. I’d be surprised if we turned down other trade with Qatar, and this is, whether we like it or not, another business trading there for a few weeks. …Beckham’s been a money grabbing **** though.
Everyone at work wants England to win it, no matter who we play. I think the frogs are favourites. God forbid
