Now don’t get me getting on WC nostalgia.
Oh ok then.....my first memories were the magnificent 1970’s tournaments - particularly 1970 which was just magical to a 9 year old.

From Jeff Astle’s miss to Bonetti’s fumbling to Luigi Riva, Gerd Muller, a young Cubillas & the sizzling Brazilian team as well as the kipper ties, paisley shirts & wide lapels of Malcolm Allison in the ITV studio.

I can’t recall much of the last WC’s if truth be told<doh>
I was a little bit younger.
Not a lot.

Probably watched more of WCs as a kid than post teens.

It’s mad isn’t it - I (and I bet we all can) can name most of the Brazil, W German & England sides in the 1970 WC but nowadays :emoticon-0138-think

Same goes with the Hit Parade back then - what’s no 1 these days <confused>
I don't even know how they figure what is number one. Is it the number of "hits"?
If so, does it mean you have to have hits before you can have a hit? A paradox not worth contemplating.

I was on holiday in Spain during the 1982 World Cup and watched the Spain v N Ireland match with a load of NI tourists in a local pub. Gerry Armstrong scored the only goal and the place went wild. The celebrations went well into the night.,
The next day I walked past a tee shirt shop that had a sign saying “We print anything on tee shirts”. So I asked them to print Espana 0 -1 N Irlanda. At first they refused but I reminded them of their sign and they reluctantly printed it for me. I only wore it for one day though as for some reason I was constantly being refused service in the shops and hostelries as well as getting some not too friendly looks from the locals!

Another great WC - Italy v Brazil game a genuine classic

You guys are about to experience something uniquely English - your national team playing in a game where the rest of the world (possibly with the exception of Russia) will be supporting the opposition!!!
Well I’m an Irishman and I’ll be supporting Wales. How did England get on yesterday by the way?

We're used to it. We had to play Denmark after the Erikson incident.
But as BfB points out, this time we'll be at a stadium rocking with passionate Welsh folk.
I'm getting really nervous now.
C'mon Wales.

No bets these days remote - I'm building up my resources to back City to win every game next season...........<laugh>

BTW, for your info and everyone else for that matter, the "tagging" system for members names on the forum is kaput for the moment - it doesn't flag up on the recipient's notification tab.

I think Mick has got his spanners out trying to fix it, and I only saw your message by chance. <ok>
