Lots of players seem to put more passion into playing for their national side - Pogba being just one of them. Only 3 or 4 England players played with any passion. We just can't seem to match some countries in terms of what it means to wear the shirt.
You're someone who doesn't value the journey so no surprise you think that.

I can't criticise as I've never been able to muster the passion for the national side myself.
I completely understand what you're saying. I don't have the same enthusiasm I used to have watching England. Maybe their lack of passion rubbed off on the fans, I can't believe lack of success turns people off since most clubs aren't successful.
It's certainly not that with me. I grew up following my local club and that's the way it's stayed.
Club football is intense and stimulating and is something to follow for most of the year. Internationals are sporadic and, for the most part, meaningless.
I can take an interest in them, but there's no real passion.
I've always had a lot more passion for Liverpool than England. For comparison, I don't follow athletics, fencing, judo etc. etc but have maintained the same level of interest in the Olympics. I don't know why my interest in the England football team waned.
Would just like to add though that it's a different kettle of fish being selected to represent your country and showing minimum passion to being a spectator and showing little enthusiasm. It should be a requirement for the former and an option for the latter.
Then I guess you’d know better than me. And I could be completely off the mark here as I am far from the situation, but it always seemed to me that Liverpool, as a city, as people, is the butt end of English “humour” and “banter” in demeaning or belittling way more so than other cities or regions of England. It also always seemed to me that the people of Liverpool were very aware, and rightfully defensive about this. I hope I’m not pissing anyone off with my possibly naive assumptions.

I'm not sure why it should be more sensitive to us than anyone else, tbh. I'd expect all fans to be passionate about their club and the interest in the national teams to vary across the board.
Though I do feel there's a lot more support around for England when I'm in London.
I've always assumed that that's because they think London is England.
I remember back in the 70's when Wembley Stadium was unofficially split into London Clubs areas and Scousers(Northerners)got a hiding in the West Ham, Millwall, Chelsea areas of the ground, it never mattered they were there to support their home nation, tribalism and hooliganism were more important to the morons at the time.
Never been tempted to go to watch England but went to Dublin to watch Ireland play.........England a couple of summers ago.
Basically, this is the impression that I’ve got based solely on my being a Liverpool fan from another continent. And so this translates into international football where I find almost everyone loves club above all, but I’ve read stuff and heard stuff online where scousers even go so far as to cheer against England. I was almost a little surprised that I found none of that line of thinking here.
