    Another below par performance from England,just shows how far behind we are at International level.Thought we looked tired from the start and once again no sign of a goal from open play.

    As the "its coming home" stuff irratated anyone else?

    I don't mean the repetitiveness or naivety. I'm talking about to incorrect use of the phrase.

    "It's coming home" was referring to football, not the trophy. It was a song created prior to Euro 96, not a world cup. It was referring to a football tournament about to be played on English football.

    It's = football
    Home = English soil

    Yeah, bit like Brittania rules the waves when it's obvious they don't, and god ain't going to save the Queen, otherwise Victoria would still be on the throne.

    Lack of concentration has cost England in the Sunday final, maybe, they were hoping for a penalty shootout which Croatia actually came for.

    England's World Cup defeat: Reaction as Gareth Southgate's side lose semi-final
    England's World Cup semi-final was their first since 1990 - and ended in the pain of extra-time defeat
    Well, it was brilliant while it lasted, but England are coming home.
    England's bid to reach a first World Cup final since 1966 came to an end as they lost in extra time to Croatia in Moscow.
    But the mood on social media remained as positive as it has been for the past three weeks.
    Former England players shared their thoughts on the current team and focused on the future.

    I don't think the players underachieved at all, they played to the best of their ability and got to where they should have based on the opposition and performance. They don't have the technical skill to control a game against a top side and fall apart when they are pressed.

    I don't subscribe to all the media bluster, i see a group of players that are good but not quite top quality. I also don't see where they will improve from. Most of them plateaued in this WC, unless a Paul Scholes suddenly materialises from the youth ranks, we won't do much better.

    It's been said many times but the FA have to bite the bullet and change things at grass roots level. We aren't producing players of the correct technical level to challenge the very best and considering the amount of money the FA generates from the PL, we should have more than enough money to fix our issues. If Germany, France, Spain etc can do it, there is no reason why we can't. But ultimately the wrong people are in charge and all they are interested in seeing the PL becoming an even bigger money maker. I'm not complaining about that, but don't lie, bullshit and then lay into the players when they ultimately fail.

    tbf to Henderson the formation and players used meant he was virtually the only man in midfield. Lingard and Ali, I'm still unsure as to where they were supposed to be playing. Were they supposed to be CM, in which case they were both too high. Or were they supposed to be ACM, in which case that leaves 1 centre mid and pretty much 4 up front.
    The system needs tweaking, only 2 of Sterling, Lingard and Ali should start and give Henderson a partner in CM

    Sterling has been playing for England for 6 years.

    List of all his goals:
    1 goal in 4-0 win against Lithuania
    1 goal in 2-0 win against Estonia once already qualified

    That is all.

    No, I suspect it will look equally as poor as his goalscoring record but since I don't know, it was a genuine question for once.

    Yeah but they re-released the song for several other tournaments and the meaning evolved to football coming home being symbolised by a major international trophy being brought home

    Modric said it like it is and gave the English media a proper slapping down. Speaking after Croatia’s win in Moscow, Modric told ITV Sport: ‘We proved everything differently that people were talking. ‘Especially English journalists, pundits from television, they underestimated Croatia tonight and that was a huge mistake. All these words from them we take, we were reading and we were saying “OK, today we will see who will be tired.” ‘As I said, they should be more humble, and respect opponents more. That’s it."

    Totally agree, it was bizarre that idiotic pundits like Wright was talking about an England v France final etc. Keane was right to call him out and then Wright came back with childish insults, would have loved to see Keane give him a slap, he was close to it.
