    What were Spain playing at?
Why didn't Xavi come on to control the midfield, Fabregas to push forward, Villa because he's deadly with half a chance?
They started with Iniesta on the left - poor choice, Alonso & Biscuits with Silva in midfield, why?? And they took Torres to the world cup over Negredo!
Poor selections, poor personnel choices, and they got their reward for it in the end really.
The competition is suddenly more open though, guaranteed a new set of world champions :)

This is what doesn't make any sense. How the hell does ****ty Torres, that hasn't done anything for club or country get continuously picked over players like Negredo and even Morata. They have a wealth and depth of players that most countries would be envious of. They can play a variety of different styles should they wish to. They have some of the best gifted midfielders in the world yet looked clueless in the middle. Some serious questions need to be asked and heads have to roll.

    This.
Torres is officially the Spanish Heskey.
Complete donkey yet keeps getting picked.
When Spain brought him on, they were desperate for a goal, and you could feel the collective sighs of a million spaniards.
Just like when Heskey came on for England against Germany in the last world cup.

I never thought about it like that but it makes so much sense <laugh> . But seriously, Spain had such a top squad but couldn't even get out of their group. Just shows that if you make the wrong decisions and don't make the right preparations, it can all go horribly wrong.

Spanish Heskey? He wishes! Emile at least used to huff and puff a lot and careen off defenders generally making an energetic, yet pretty useless a*se of himself. Torres does an ineffective run, fecks something else up and then pouts for the remainder of the game. Such a shame as he used to be incredible.

Have to say I loved the way Chile played. Such energy and intensity for the entire match and everyone working to the same level too. Would love to snap up a number of their squad based on such attitude. Also great to see a toe poke in the match, brought a tear to my eye!

    Casillas was ****ing dreadful though.

That punch?!Why not just catch it, it wasnt even coming at him at great speed.

He has totally lost it, his CL final performance too, nearly blew it for Real.
People went mental when Jose dropped him, but he has been vindicated in his decision somewhat, Casillas is very poor now and far too error prone.

Or, Maureen shattered his confidence by dropping him and his lack of match practice hasn't helped..

To be honest though I dunno as I didn't see his performances prior to him being dropped. It is a very Maureen thing to do though, picking an established player and making a statement by replacing them.

Nah Casillas hasnt been right for the last 3 seasons mate.
Not quite sure why he went from being pretty much the best goalie in the world, to Massimo Taibi, but something is not right there.
His reactions and decision making skills just seem to have vanished.

The whole Spanish selection didn't make sense.

Costa was evidently not fully fit so why play him?..

Torres ahead of Negredo and Llorente?

I understand Xavi being benched because he has been poor of late but the team needed some energy.

Fabregas in midfield would have done the trick.

Albiol in defence so that Martinez could have played instead of biscuits...

    I would have gone....

    -------------------Casillas---------------------
    Alba------Albiol--------Ramos------Azpulacueta
    ------------------Martinez--------------------
    -----------Iniesta----------Fabregas-----------
    Mata--------------Negredo------------Carzorla

It goes to show that they could comfortably field two Spanish sides for different occasions. That team would have added so much more energy and added a more direct threat. Its a shame the manager did little to change things around. The problem of having an aging manager stuck in his ways.....

Cazorla doesn't start for Spain even when he's on form, there's no way he was going to now

He seems to be the first choice sub. But that's basically what we are saying.

Del Bosque has not adapted - he got successful and has refused to change.

He did more in 15 minutes than Silva did all game tbh. I'd have dropped Silva after his disappointing performance if I was Del Bosque

Aurier seemed a little hit & miss on his crosses today, but it does say a lot that he takes all the corners for Cote d'Ivoire.

The look on Armero's face when celebrating the first goal was brilliant.
