I’m sure we will and that’s when we will be saying goodbye. We are nowhere near the finished article yet, and I think it’s only the relative weakness of the teams in this tournament that is making us hopeful. But we are on the way, future looks good. And with Southgate even a performance like today will be put to good use lots of learning.
Technically quite good and works hard. Belgium's 2nd string are a fair bit better than ours. I think we've played some half decent stuff at times without carrying much threat. Rashford should have scored. I'll take this. Beat Columbia and then the winner of Sweden v Switzerland. Columbia no pushover mind you.
Only the relative weakness of the usual suspects imo. Belgium, Spain, Croatia, France and Mexico all look good and Argentina and Brazil have individuals to win any game. Southgate did the right thing tonight and let's see how the first team gets on now.
At least we now know the players who shouldn't get a look-in going forward - Jones, Cahill, Dier, Vardy and Welbeck. Delph was OK, but I can't see any reason to pick him. Our first-team could still win it, though.
From someone on the outside looking in, I think England have a very good draw and with a young progressive team, should do very well. Baring injuries, they really do have the opportunity to shine.
The curse of ITV strikes again. Since the 1998 World Cup we've only won 10% of our games when shown on ITV. 69% when our games are covered on BBC. The game v Colombia on Tuesday will be on ITV. please log in to view this image
I want England to get further on merit. Love the screen grab Mr 9's Yes, I nearly posted something about the ITV Vs BBC stats before the game. I hesitated due to being labeled a jinx
As Col said, the line-up tonight carried little threat. Little point putting high balls into the box for the Goliath known at Vardy to get his head to. Loftus-Cheek should’ve taken a shot instead of that **** touch in the first half. Bad miss by Rashford in the second half. Other than that, I was bored, bored, bored. Badly need a playmaker.
@Sooperhoop Hope your well my friend and enjoying the world cup like most of us Brits See you posting again soon I hope Bro
He’s not a playmaker, he’s a goalscorer. He’s very good at carving out opportunities for himself, but I’m really talking about a creative midfielder.
I actually disagree with you on this one Uber. Harry makes lots of play in front of goal where it matters the most, such as hat tricks. Yes we would all love play makers in defense and in midfield, but right now thank fook we finally have a play maker in front of goal Harry is getting the service and chances to score these much needed goals so a fully fit plan A and motivated quad like we have seen could do very well imo.
Just seen what the Poles and Japanese got up to for the last 15 minutes of their game. Prompt, severe and enduring punishment required. Though there is a certain bitter symmetry with Japan going through on fair play by using gamesmanship.
going to have to disagree. Harry has scored 2 taps ins from set pieces, 2 pens and a deflected goal. That is not him playmaking and getting goals, that is basically set pieces plug a fluke. He can be a deadly striker but i don't think he's actually had that many opportunities. Most of them has fallen to sterling or lingard typically from trippier
