Rugby (both codes) really does this much better, doesn't it? I heard someone on the radio suggest they should use it properly for the next match, award several penalties and see if the players still carry on fouling in this way knowing they'll get penalised.

Even American Football, with several umpires assisting the referee on the field, can get better results in live games simply by working as a team and focusing on specific areas.

The back-pass lob was very stupid. But the ref allowed an injured player to enter the pitch “hockey style” in the area of play to give an unfair advantage.

But it only makes it very slightly less dissapointing

 

Quite enjoying this Russia - Egypt match - being played at a good pace, really open gsme. Egypt having to go for it to stay in the tournament, Russia getting opportunities on the counter. Still goaless, but don't see it ending thst way

 

Egypt falling apart in the second half - 2 down and ptobably heading out, barring a miracle by Saudi Arabia......

That's a good suggestion, BD. A few penalties and players will know they're being watched. At the moment, it's like thieves operating in areas where they know the CCTV doesn't have any film. Rugby ( I agree both codes) has cleaned itself up incredibly with video and sin bin. There are rarely any punches thrown. On Saturday, Mako Vinipola was caught on video giving a South African player a pretty harmless (and purposeless) slap on the head in the scrum, and was straight off to the sin bin. Correct decision. What an idiot...

Portugal looking very average in this, mind you they won the Euros looking the same.

 

Portugal were second to Spain in their first match, even though it was a draw
They were not brilliant in the Euros
Against Morocco they were second best, saved by Ronaldos ability to always find the net (contrasting with the Moroccans not even knowing there was a net on the field at all)

Portugal will be found out soon, I am certain they will not win it...but Ronaldo may pick up the Golden Boot before they are sussed

 

He also performed a outrageous dive and then asked for it to be reviewed on VAR.

Uruguay look like a real pain to play against. Doubtless we will get them at some stage.

Sadly not. It would have been highly amusing if the ref had acceded to his VAR request and then booked him after review.
