the tale of andros townsend at ipswich gets even better when you realise that then manager royston keane sent him back to his parent club early as he wasn't cutting the mustard. always been able to spot a player, our royston... <laugh>

so, who do we have who could be going to the world cup then? i know it's a way off, but worth a comment

Leory Fer? started last night vs turkey (according to NCFC facebook page), if he continues his good form for us he should be on the plane you'd have thought

Elmander and Olsson, Sweden face a play-off but are one of the stronger teams in there along with France and Portugal

John Ruddy? will need to play well to keep his place when Ben Foster returns from injury and if Fraser Forster continues to play well.

Outsiders - Gary Hooper, given limited striking options for England.

forgot about RvW, oops

So apparently England are 10th in the world rankings now (ahead of Brazil and France, but behind Switzerland - note also that he Swiss are ahead of both the Dutch and Italy).

Blimey.

Sorry, this might be a bit late to discuss but...

Did anyone else notice a difference with England's ability to keep possession on Tuesday (didn't see Fridays game so can't comment)? Usually when passed the ball, the players get put under pressure and lose it. It became a trait of England (and frustrated me endlessly) hopelessly unable to hold the ball in midfield and thus only went for the easy option of players in space. But the other day they passed it more to team mates with opponents in close proximity and, furthermore, they were able to keep it and either run with it or pass it to someone else...

I think Pat Nevin once discussed how Spain on purpose pass to team mates who have opponents surrounding them (because they can hold the ball very well)... Whilst not as polished (ahem) as Spain, I wonder whether England tried this against Poland...
