Was reading about that over the weekend. This shambles is purely so they can give 2034 to Saudi and continents can't say "we haven't had one for a while." Whole thing is awful tbh

Might actually have destroyed the world cup. If the next one is unwieldy because of how many teams are in it, then the next one even worse with the travelling people might not be interested by 2034. By expanding it to 32 teams it meant a few countries wouldn't be able to afford to stage it, at 48 (a 50% increase) it's taking it out of the reach of most countries to host it. Some countries are just not big or wealthy enough to afford 14+ 40k seated stadiums, and with White elephant stadiums built for Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and most likely Qatar 2022, you might get more countries going "no thanks". That might then leave it as no more than a vanity project for dictatorial, authoritarian countries.

Sad state of affairs. I'll just watch the official world cup films from back in the day instead, they were mint!

For me the greed of the world governing body shows no bounds. I agree that each continent should stage the world cup, but at what cost. The world cup in Africa was great apart from the awful vuvuzela's. I thought Russia staged a fantastic world cup filled with great football and colour. I have to admit to being disappointed at the world cup in Qatar as I thought the atmosphere and the carnival feel was missing and I believe a lot of fans boycotted it because of where it was being held. this moving it round the Globe is a vanity project for Fifa so they can highlight the anniversary of the first winners. That's great but why not hold the tournament in the country that gave us Football in the first place and brought it to the world. The smugness and superiority of tha overall authority is bewildering and the New guy in charge Infantino seems as corrupt as his predecessors with his lovely big estate house in Qatar where he now lives tax free???

The whole system needs shaking to its core and a root and branch clear out is needed but this will not happen
