In an exclusive interview with Voetbal International, Brian Brobbey talks about his experiences in England, his development as a striker, and his honour to be selected for the World Cup with the Netherlands.
️ Brian Brobbey: “I consider it an honour to play in my first World Cup. It means a lot to me. I am looking forward to it, also because of what I showed at Sunderland. I hope for more minutes than during the last European Championship. This is a very different Brobbey. This one plays in the Premier League and has become more complete, I think.”
On his move to Sunderland: “I am calmer in my head. Sunderland isn’t Amsterdam, you know. I wanted a new challenge, I had to step out of my comfort zone . That worked out well. I train and family comes by occasionally. There is less hustle and bustle here. As a result, I have fewer distractions and more peace of mind.”
On his winning Tyne-Wear Derby goal: “That was the most important one. For the supporters and for me. I saw how much the match meant to the city and to our fans. I will never forget their joy after that goal.”
On Sunderland fans singing Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’: “The atmosphere was incredible. How they supported us from the academy to the stadium, truly amazing. I’ve been to every stadium this season, but I really think we have the best fans. They stick behind you and make so much noise. This is top, top, top. Apart from Nottingham Forest, everyone struggled against us. That is partly thanks to our fans.”
