The difference in the end was the crossing into the box.
They found Giroud when it needed to, not one of ours (excluding set pieces ) found an England head. Most went too far or directly into Lloris's hands.

The reality is that England have long been around
WC QF standard, and any ventures further forward
than that have been few (no shame in that) .

Comparing Kane and Giroud in WC 2022 is however significant.
Southgate did not set his teams to play to the strengths
of Kane, who is the top performance England forward
this season alone in club football (without even considering
his overall proven pedigree) .

France OTOH hindered Giroud in no such way
His team mates have been providing the service he desires,
and he has been delivering accordingly.

I am not sure how many refs are still left at the World Cup, but 3 of the 4 quarter finals were refereed badly and Englands departure leaves one Michael Oliver in with a chance of getting the final!

The first thing arriving 'home' promises to be the ball from Harry's penalty. It was last seen heading North West at speed above Italy....

Just before France scored their first goal,England were at this sideways, backwards business again. It was goalie to right fielder who then passed it bckwards then it went sideways,,2 feet feet forwards before it went sideways etc etc before it was sent up the field to a Frenchman who then passed forward then forward at speed then forward,forward,shot....GOAL!...It was old time football v. new ideas football.....and I'm bloody glad old time football came through! Even though we lost. Our right winger didn't help either.Always double marked every time he got the ball. Someone show these players of Cliff Jones in action!

I am sorry to disagree smithy but our right winger (Saka) was our best player by a distance, he was constantly bought down trying to beat his man including in the build up to the goal that you mention above.
