The worst thing about this is I reckon the festive period will never return to the PL after this. That will be a sad day :(

You could be right, but no matter how good it is for the fans, it is an absolute nightmare for players. Way too many games in a short period of time.

Nah. Europe will back Figo, but Blatter has the support of the biggest continent on the planet, plus most of South America and the Middle East.

What I meant was that with him at the helm, this will go down as the most disasterous World Cup in terms of planning, etc... it will be his final legacy.

I agree, he will get in again this time, especially as his cronies have put up Figo and the Jordanian fella, to deflect away from the Dutchman who would be a worthy challenger - split the euro vote. IMO.

FIFA have said they will shorten the WC by a couple of days, do they really how pissed the big clubs in Europe are going to be is this crazy plan goes ahead ?

FIFA is completely corrupt. The bids for the world cup were bought and now after the bid was approved the time of year is changed. Really wish there was a way for football just to leave FIFA behind and start a new
organisation.

Not sure what the big deal is tbh. It is the WORLD cup not European cup. Countries from outside Europe have had to change their domestic fixture list for years to accomodate for a summer tournament, European teams having to do it once has caused some up roar.

Best post of the thread. This reaction is typical of the European neo-colonialist attidue.

I suspect the biggest problem for FIFA will be if European television demands compensation for disruption to their schedules. If this is incurred the Premier League etc. and the clubs are surely going to want compensation or refuse to let players go to fulfill television contracts. If this happened we would probably see the wealth of Sky etc. pitted against Qatar.

Typical post of PompeyLapras. ;)

They do have a point though. However we have no idea how much Russian media etc. complain about summer World Cups. The truth is that our views are fed to us from media streams that will have allegiances and influences. Can you imagine Sky News reporting that football was being ruined by too much television money...

You need to look up how many leagues play during November and December, then see how many are running in June.

Russia: Transition to an August–May season completed in 2012

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_association_football_season

Only leagues running in late June/ July:
Norway
Kenyan
Brazil
Canadian
USA
Singapore
Japan
China
Ireland
Argentina

Leagues that play through Nov/Dec:

England
France
Germany
Italy
Turkey
Greece
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Russia
Spain
Sweden
Egypt
Libyan
Nigerian
South Africa
Rwanda
Argentina
Brazil
Jamaica
USA
Mexico
Trinidad
Australia
Japan
Etc etc etc

So which time of year effects leagues more? It even effects the teams that would be effected in June/July anyways.

And why do you think Russia altered its fixture calendar?! I never disagreed that predominantly the leagues play in November and December - the majority probably do, however one could argue that we only hear the demands of the most influential leagues and these are the ones with the most cash.

It doesn't matter if they have changed when they start. What matters is it now effects them. It is stupid doing it during these months.
