Sterling made some great runs and never gave up wanting the ball, but the truth is he was woeful when he actually got the ball. He has lacked balance and composure in every match and never knew what he was going to do with the ball. Just watch where his hands are when he's running with the ball. They are all over the place and often in the air, which is why he falls over so often. Great heart and persistence, but he's there to score goals.

Unfortunately last night I thought Southgate didn't react to what was going on in front of him. It's all well and good sticking to your own way of playing because the team believe in it, but when you aren't creating any chances with that plan (which we didn't in the second half and all of extra time) but the opposition are creating bucket loads with their plan, then it should have come down to stopping the opposition from creating their chances and protecting the one goal lead. If we'd gone to 4-4-2 by bringing on Danny Rose and pushing Young further up, and moving Walker over to right back and moving Trippier up, we'd have stifled their full backs and their wide midfield and cut off the supply into our penalty area. Sacrificing one of Dele or Lingard and beefing up the midfield by bringing on Dier or Loftus-Cheek would have given us a bit more defensive cover as well. But never mind; there's always 2022!
