So the World Cup is just around the corner and we have quite a few players going Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire have been called up for England Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa for Nigeria Kasper Schmeichel for Denmark Adrien Silva for Portugal Yohan Benalouane for Tunisa Shinji Okazaki is expected to get called up by Japan
Glad Silva got in after the transfer debacle, think he could be a good player for us next year, can play a great weighted ball. Whats the odds of Benelouane getting sent off in the group stages
Wonder what Danny Drinkwater thanks about moving now? That midfield with all the injury’s was crying out for a solid Cm who could distribute...
It never seemed he was that fussed for playing for England. He pulled out a couple of times for soft injuries and seemed to burn his bridges with Southgate. Anyway he got in the squad with us so it doesn’t seem England call ups were his motivation for the move to Chelsea
Id say it was one of the main reasons for the move at the time, with injured players like Wiltshire and Henderson being picked for the euros with no gametime under Hodgson when he'd just played a whole season and won the league. Seems to me he moved to Chelsea to increase his chances of an England call up, probably would have gone too if Woy was still in charge. Credit to Southgate for choosing players on form rather than Wiltshire and Hart "just 'cause".
I agree, I think he thought he deserved to start (and arguably he did). Realistically, he didn’t but with all the injuries, if he was playing and in form im confident he’d have made it. Must be on his mind.
Ricardo Pereira is part of the Portugal side taking us to 10 players Riyad Mahrez was the only Leicester player at the last world cup and before him Muzzy Izzet was the last Leicester player to go to the world cup in Japan in 2002
So without me looking to test my memory, that’d be Vardy Maguire Silva Pereira Okazaki Ndidi Iheanacho Musa Schmeichel I had to look up the last one, Benny, how could I forget! Good that 7 of them are across 3 nations, will be watching Portugal and Nigeria too
Harry Kane has been made captain of England - will be the starter so can't see Vardy playing more then 30 min in total during the tournament.
Thought exactly the same, he'll be useless in the big matches where we will be defending 95% of the time and you need Vardy as an outlet.
If Benny plays against England in the first match, we may see JV as the main striker for the remainder of the tournament.
