In the immortal words of Vinnie Jones "Its been emotional"

Last German game I was surrounded by Germans, tonight it was English. Even though they won, eventually, those poor bastards went through hell and then somewhere worse. First the injury time equalizer sucked the life out of them, then Henderson nearly killed them.

I watched this game with 16 English men and Women who were all full of hope and excitement deep into injury time then, Colombia equalized and in an instant the room grew thick and clammy with sadness and utter despair. I watched helpless as all my friends exhaled in unison and all hope left them. The room reverberated with the mantra, not again, not again, its happening again, its happening again.

The whistle eventually blew after the torture of extra time, the intake of Lager increased 10 fold as all expected their hopes to be dashed again on a white spot 11m from the goal.

Then Henderson missed, the room went cold, men cursed, some joining their wives and teared up while others sank to the floor. After Colombia hit the bar most stared dead eyed at the screen, they had nothing left as Trippier walked to the spot, most wishing they were a bit trippier themselves so they wouldn't have to feel the pain when he missed.

You can imagine the next couple of fist punching minutes yourselves, when Dyer hit the back of the net I realized what it must have felt like on VE day. Beers and tears were spilled, bottles and glasses flew (glad we weren't in my house), wives were kissed, didn't matter whose wife it was, chairs, sofas, tables were upended as the party leaped screaming through the patio doors into the garden where English Men, English Women, one Welsh Man and a German bird jumped so hard we jumped ourselves back in time to our childhood where we stayed for a while without a care in the world.

We had a great party, I've just spent £185 on a taxi, its 07:40 and I'm off to bed with that German bird I mentioned, yep I pulled. I love my English friends

I thought the game last night was the worst game of the tournament so far. It was petulant, bitchy, dirty and uninspiring.
Colombia started the problems with their attitude and then England joined them with all the diving and play-acting. It was a terrible advert for a game of football.
Maguire disgusted me with his dive in the penalty area and then putting his arm up to claim he was fouled. Blatant cheating. Colombia were every bit as bad.
It seemed that every time someone from either side tried to tackle it just resulted in a free kick due to all the falling over.

Lets be realistic here, through by the skin of your teeth, but still through nevertheless and unless you are in it you cant win it. But, scraped home against Tunisia, hammered tourquay united, lost to Belgium and failed to beat Colombia in 120 mins and failed to score in open play or even create a chance to be fair. So all this media, this is the year, needs to be tempered with you haven't beaten anybody of any use yet. the best thing that can be said is England always look half tidy for 30 minutes and then stop playing and that they are still in it so they could still win it, I hope the **** they don't but it is possible.

So we will have to wait and see how far the go, is the media hype right or just hype. One thing I will add Southgate needs to dump Sterling for Rashford if he wants to score a few more goals as Sterling has possibly been Englands worst player.

Just listening to Talkshite while making tea and I am staggered, people talking about the Euphoria and outstanding performances, now if last nights win had been a semi final I get it, but a team ranked 12 in the world have reached the last 8 and you would swear they have just ****ing won the thing.

What is bugging me even more watching players and Maguire was the worst, making the square sign at every incident asking for VAR, it is getting on my tits. I agree with your comments.

Nope mate sorry cant, they are still in it so they have a great chance, but to say how well they have played is a bit of a joke, they should be at least at this stage every tournament with the squads they have. They beat to poor sides, lost to the only side with a squad as good as theirs and beat a team on pens having failed to score a goal in open play. but good luck to them, just hope they get knocked out sooner rather than later.

**** me, what do you think we'd be doing if it was Wales winning last night after being punched and booted all game to be almost knocked out by a sucker punch only to get up off our arses and win a penalty shootout, something we've never done before. I think, as a nation, we'd all be bashing off to the replays over and over again, we'd all be laying bets on who we'll face in the final, Brazil, Belgium or France and all the while we'd be chanting "Are you watching Engerlund" and goading every Englishman we could find.

Us Welsh, we're better than that though aren't we? I am

So, being impartial, realistic even, England well deserved their win last night. They were the only side trying to play football and on the whole the very young England team managed to keep their cool under extreme provocation. Not saying their performance was perfect, it wasn't, but it would have been a travesty if a bunch of car park muggers won last night. Those dirty bastards should be sanctioned in some way for making our beautiful game look ugly. Colombia deserved everything they got last night which was **** all.

Most of the game England were the better team, except for a period in the 1st half of extra time when they were shell shocked after conceding 3 minutes into injury time when the Colombians manufactured their only chance of scoring.

Regarding the players that have been mentioned, did everyone miss Maguire getting up immediately after falling in the box and waving at the ref telling him it was not a penalty? or am I the only one who saw that? For the entire game Maguire was huge.

Problem with Sterling is that too often he had to drop back to cover Deli Ali who constantly went missing. Ali shouldn't be on the pitch imo, I don't buy him being 'injured' I just think he's bottling it. Either way, next game I'd start Rashford in Sterlings role while dropping Sterling into Ali's position. I'd drop Ali out of the match day squad entirely, keeping Loftus-Cheek on the bench where he can be an impact player later in the game.

I think Sweden will be a tougher prospect altogether than Colombia, they are uncompromising but street savvy, they know what they're doing where as Colombia lost the plot. Here reports that Maradona has been saying that Colubia were cheated out of the world cup by am American referee, what a twat he is, he should know more about cheating than most though.

Its going to be a chess match between the attack of England and the staunch defense of the Swedes who will be looking for quick breaks to kill England off. We could see our very own Martin Olsson get some minutes too, would be nice to have some kind of representation at the world cup.

My Mam was born in England in 1915 to Welsh parents when my Grandfather was on active service during the first world war, So i have no problem supporting England when Wales are not representing our nation.....I bet many of us have an English connection down the line somewhere.....I have traced my family tree right the way back to the 1500s and i have strong links with Ireland, England and Wales.....No Scots in my family tree though....<laugh> I would still cheer them on if they were the only ones in the WC....Why Not...
