Check out the reaction in Algiers to Slimani's goal - it's absolutely mental: Goal occurs at 00:37
I can understand Uruguay fighting the scale of the punishment because you would be daft not to, but I do worry that they honestly think biting is acceptable, especially when you consider it is a third offence (with a seasoning of racism thrown in). They raise the point that they want to be sure that Messi would have been treated the same way...pretty sure he would be if he went round chewing opponents.
Have to add that I can't see why Suarez can't train with Liverpool during that time...that does seem a bit over the top. He surely needs to keep fit.
I just don't like it when things like this get said. Siege mentality is good in sport, but Suarez has taken things outside of sport. They should say absolutely nothing if they can not bring themselves to utter the words that he was wrong to do what he did. I can see Uruguay trying to claim the Falklands next.
Just been listening to last Tuesday's post-England v Costa Rica match BBC 606 and one of the interesting highlights was a random montage of post-England match-in-a-tournament telephone calls the programme had received from 1998 to present day. And they were all the same, pointing to the same problems and issues. The only thing one didn't hear was the pundit reaction, and I think that was because the pundits have been coming round to the general public reaction. Instead of being polite about it, pundits are now calling it as they see it. They may be wrong [or right] in their explanations, but they don't hide their utter disappointment. If you want to hear the calls go here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b047c9ll Start at 01:36:05, [near the end] where Mark Chapman reads out a text suggesting that the phone-ins in 1966 were dull [as if they had them then], and then plays the montage. Quite interesting. As MC says... some things just don't change.
FIFA say that Luis Suárez cannot appear in the Liverpool 2014/15 team photo, if it is taken, as is tradition, at Anfield. He can't even do football-related charity work or any coaching in the community. Ditto for training.
I read that he may resign as a FIFA rep in protest. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28058345 I think he should realise that if someone bites someone else outside on the city streets, that is taken as common assault, so one can be charged and serve a sentence, if found guilty. Suarez is lucky he bit someone on a football pitch, because a 4 month ban and various matches is actually peanuts, and there is no criminal record either.
One last parting thought before I finally take this blasted [but wonderful Galaxy] phone off the Net and go to sleep. Saints have no current active players in the England senior squad..! Let's just keep it that way, eh..? Rodrigeuz..? Prepare to have your legs broken..! [no, can't think that of Jay, even in jest]. Mind you, if he actually asks for a transfer..?
