Heather Knight has been appointed as England women's captain after the retirement of Charlotte Edwards. Knight, 25, vice-captain since August 2014, has played five Tests, 55 one-day internationals and 33 Twenty20s.

The WICB has agreed to release captain Jason Holder, batsman Darren Bravo, all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, and wicketkeeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin for the Caribbean Premier League, starting June 30, which is four days after the tri-series final in Barbados. They can remain with their franchises until July 11, ten days before West Indies' first Test against India in Antigua. Nearly fell off my chair - a sensible decision from the WICB!!

Billy Bowden may have stood in his last international match, after being dropped from New Zealand Cricket's international panel of umpires. Bowden was demoted to NZC's national panel. Bowden stood in 84 Tests, 200 one-day internationals and 24 T20 internationals, his most recent appearance having been during the Chappell-Hadlee Series in Wellington in February.

The ICC is pushing for the creation of a new ODI league for the world's top 13 countries to give 50-over cricket new context and relevance. Plans are well-advanced to create a new league from 2019 for 13 nations - believed to be the ten Test teams, Afghanistan, Ireland and one other Associate, with Nepal reportedly a favoured option. The league will see all countries play each other over three years, with the top two nations playing a play-off series to determine the overall winner of the ODI league.

A shortened version of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held every year from September. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hold a two-week competition at an overseas venue. The Twenty20 tournament will host the eight teams that already compete in the seven-week format in India. The competition will bridge the gap in India's international calendar after the Champions League Twenty20 was discontinued last year.
