Australia's Test cricketers have been sent back to their state squads, with the Test tour of Bangladesh now almost certain to be cancelled due to safety concerns. Cricket Australia's security staff arrived home from Dhaka on Tuesday night and were to report to the Cricket Australia board and the Australian Cricketers' Association on Wednesday. Although no official announcement is expected from Cricket Australia until at least Thursday, there appears little prospect of the two-Test tour proceeding. The 15 members of the Test squad have been told to resume training with their state squads, which are preparing for next month's Matador Cup one-day tournament.
West Indies will not take part in the 2017 Champions Trophy after Pakistan pipped them to eighth place in the International Cricket Council's one-day rankings at the 30 September cut-off. Now Official - Australia have postponed their Test tour to Bangladesh this month because of security concerns. The two-Test series was due to begin in Chittagong on Friday, 9 October. Cricket Australia (CA) say "an independent security assessment found a risk of terrorism in Bangladesh targeting Australian nationals". "We have worked tirelessly to find a way for the tour to proceed, but in the end it was simply not possible," said CA chief executive James Sutherland.
