The whole Makwala thing was just funny by the end. Not for poor Isaac though.

Well that's an upset. How on earth did a man from Turkey, originally from Azerbajan, who does not have Afro ancestry, manage to win the 200m? I thought it was a given that to win the sprints you need Afro blood coursing through your veins. Having said that Daphne Schippers looks a possible winner in the 200m. If it happens that will be the 200m titles for men and women who don't have Afro blood. It is good for Turkey that they have a champion, as well as the Netherlands possibly.

I have occasionally wondered if that technique was abandoned too early. Let's face it, it is ultimately all about getting the pelvis over the pole, and getting everything else out of the way, in both techniques. Does the Fosbury Flop really do it that much better.? It deals with getting buttock muscles over the pole, whereas the Western Roll deals with getting 'tackle' over [sorry to get detailed]. Just seems to me that there is room to spare [ahem] still left in that latter technique.

Do we have an expert on this forum, High Jump wise.?

Not me but I like your attention to detail getting the "tackle" clear.

The 200m final tonight almost seemed like a "B" race without a Jamaican in sight, the US runners failing to medal and the winning time outside 20 seconds. Last year in the Olympics both Lemaitre and Gemili went under 20 in the Olympic final. Is it me, but the times seems "slow" in this year's World Championships? Maybe the cool weather has had an effect, on the athletes. The championships seem to be a bit of a "wake" as we say goodbye to some of the best track stars ever seen. I do feel we will have different champions in the 100 and 200m for both men and women each time the World Championships and the Olympics are held.

I think any athletic track times, in any era, are affected by which athlete is the best at the time. Usain Bolt, for example, has been the phenomenon. He has pulled major times out of other sprinters in their urge to keep up with him or surpass him. With him gone, the standard will go down until the next exceptional, one in a billion, natural athlete. Might be a one year wait, might be 20.

Ah, Youtube. If you want to know a technique, it is often good to try Youtube for a detailed explanation. I now get it. The Fosbury Flop is all about maximising the highest jump for the lowest centre of mass. The Western Roll [Straddle Jump] requires a higher centre of mass to be in operation for any given jump height, compared to a Flop. Therefore, if you can master the FF to the same expertise as the WR [SJ] then you will obtain a higher jump.
With every progression of High Jump technigue it has always been about lowering the centre of mass. In the case of the FF, the average centre of mass can actually be lower than the bar itself because only one part of the body has to be higher than the bar, at any one given moment, to clear it.

How's that for too much detail.? And don't tell me it went over your head. ;)

How the hell can two American girls come first and second in the 300Om steeplechase? If they were adopted from Kenya or Ethiopia I could understand but they were not!! Poor race by the Kenyans who should have destroyed these runners? This event is by normal standards the sole property of East African runners so something strange going on somewhere.

I was hoping for a Kenya 1,2 3 in that ladies steeplechase. Last chance for a Kenya 1,2,3 will be the 1500m on Sunday. Keeping all my fingers crossed that they do it.

Schippers is just fabulous and did really really to hold of two strong runners from the Bahamas and the Ivory Coast. Would have loved her to have gone under 22 seconds but the elements were against that.

To be fair to the Americans, they won that race in championship record time!

It was impressive from them but it is unheard of for East Africans to be usurped from an event they have dominated. I suppose it was an element of revenge for the male US 3000m steeplechaser who crumbled under pressure on the final lap to a Kenyan and Moroccan.

Have they been to Gatlin's school of training? Joke!! More serioiusly they have had some serious altitude training. Like Mo Farah otherwise these athletes could never live with the East Africans over a distance race.

There's been a fair few surprise results in these Championships and that was for sure another one! The Kenyans have underperformed all Championship! Not sure why.
