A lot of countries have specialisms...we're better at running than chucking. Not too many Ethiopian shot putters or Kenyan hammer throwers. And the money from Sport England and other sources are assigned to sports with proven success....so a Catch 22 situation. If you won't medal, you won't get the money etc.

Having an interesting discussion about how these Championships should return to the London Stadium as often as possible....Johnson said it should be on a rota to be in the UK frequently as it is so well organised and supported here. Even Brendan who is a massive supporter of the sport in the North and Midlands says it has to be in London. I think it's very nice of the British to be massive supporters of events and clap so enthusiastically when foreigners win all the medals. :)

The major reason for it to be in London very very often is that it will piss off West Ham. Don't know why that hasn't been mentioned.

Are you a mod Chilco? If so I will leave you to close the thread, maybe some time tomorrow in case there are those who want to contribute later. Thank you for letting it run. We have had our emotions and disappointments but it has been a fantastic games and I think these games have proved that the sport is bigger than any one individual and will continue to evolve. I hope it has inspired a future generation to take up the sport.

I read 'Are you a mod, Chilco' as 'Are you mad, Chilco'. Funny that my brain decided that was the more likely comment. <whistle>

I agree that Steve Backley has been good on the field event commentary, and I've enjoyed Toni Minichiello's addition to the team aswell - hope he carries on.

I used to enjoy hearing Jonathan Edwards commentatng for BBC but don't hear him there anymore, although they showed he was at the stadium the other night during the triple jump final - anyone know who he's working for at the moment? 5 live maybe?

Overall I think the BBC presents Athletics very well - in particular the friendliness and respect all the athletes have for Phil Jones in their interviews.

Oh no please not Radcliffe. I really don't like listening to her and I don't think she's the brightest button in the box. If you'd like a woman doing it, then Denise Lewis is far more coherent and intelligent*

    * and being politically incorrect, she's damn hot too :)

You haven't a hope in catching her! She's a trained athlete.

Well we got our predicted 6 medals and a full set at that! It wasn't looking good at one point with so many near misses, however, well done all concerned for a good World Class event.
