Hi Nick - I finished Chastise this afternoon. Normally - on hols - I’d have completed it in a day or 2, but read it over 4 days (Nicola and Harri staying here as we are having work done at the bungalow).

I enjoyed the read but, if I’m honest, it didn’t have that je ne sais quoi....

Not sure if I preferred the other book that I read about the raid? :shocked:
 
Max Hastings as a military historian is an acquired taste. He writes his tale as an all encompassing narrative, from Harris at the top, down to Joe Bloggs who made Gibson a bacon sandwich. Not as an exciting episodic story (in my opinion)

His "Vietnam" is magisterial (again in my opinion)
