Guadalcanal (my 97 year old neighbour, Fabian, at age 18 fought the Japanese in tanks at Guadalcanal and other Pacific islands with the US Marine Corps. He said the fighting was absolutely brutal and hated the Australian mutton (strong taste) that they were given in their rations, but he loved my Aussie roast leg of lamb I prepared served with mint sauce and red currant jelly, with onion sauce, roast potatoes, carrots, Brussel sprouts and asparagus. My Father was in the 3rd County of London Yeomanry, Sharpshooters regiment, based near Loftus Road, in tanks, so Fabian could relate to their shared war experiences fighting Germans and Japanese.Normally he never talks about his WWII experiences)
