I'd love for some emergency he'd be subbed on in the 70th minute as a LW and turned out to score a hat-trick, only to be tried out there with Coutinho in the middle and we'd find out we've discovered a gem worth say.. £80m?
That was a special goal! I hope we loan him out if we don't shift him this window, give him to Crystal Palace or a team in the Prem where he would constantly be on the back foot, would force him to develop his confidence, the sort of deep end of the pitch and the table
He's a good player, always rated him. Wanted him instead of Enrique when we did that deal, to have both is good. Think we've done well out of Valencia's misfortune. Even if we'd bought him out right for the £4mil I still think we'd have done well, this way we get to have a look at him first. All in all a good signing
Brilliant. If his enthusiasm on the field is anywhere near his enthusiasm to lean, he will do well. On another note, all the boots in that top picture are the type of colour mish-mash that only a child would think would be cool to wear. What is wrong with black?
I think others have already mentioned it but if he can rediscover his form at Porto and Lyon, then we have a seriously talented player - AND for a potential £4m. There has been a bit of negativity over the past day with regards to failed targets but I do like how we picking top players who have lost their way a bit, and are eager to get back to the top - plus picking them up at a very good price. Another player who fits this category is Iker Muniain - labelled as one of the brightest Spanish prospects but underperformed last season and his value has gone down as a result.
In BR's system, he needs fullbacks who are capable to attacking with intelligence. Enrique is very solid defensively but he is brainless when he attacks (unless he plays solely as a LW without the defensive duties holding him back). I'm guessing this is why BR doesn't fancy him.
Not sure why we're not in for him. He's great on the left (an area BR has said we need a player) and he's 20. We're good at taking players who have potential but lost their way a bit and making them great again (torres, Coutinho? )
I agree. Think he is a bright talent and will progress and worth taking the risk before he does rediscover his form and we're priced out of a move. I could argue the same for Papa - not many clubs are in form because of his injury but should he regain his form and fitness come January, then more clubs will be in for him and his price will increase. Should we take the risk now? ...
#LFC have been told they'll need to activate Muniain buy out clause of £29.5m,if they want to secure his services. Guess this is the reason! As for Papa, I guess it depends what Schalke (?) will let him go for. Clearly for us it has been too much to justify the risk. I think initially we wanted a year loan with option to buy
Wow - £30m for him is a hell of a lot and as you say, I guess this is the reason! I believe Roma want £30m for Lamela who would be a better bet but Baldini has the connections with Roma and the player and if Spurs are in for him, then he'll get him for sure. Re. Papa - I can understand our concerns over his injury and the rationale behind wanting to wait until January so he can prove his fitness. Just feel that it will be too late ...
Oh yes definitely. Our chance is/was this summer (if we were wanting to take the risk), every man and his dog will be after him when he's fully fit in Jan.
You're right-it looks like a bloody sweet shop. I agree on Papa- if he gets fit then there'll be others after him and we may well lose out. However it's a big risk buying an injured player with an uncertain prognosis, and we've been bitten before with this. It's a shame, but again I think we've done the only thing we can under the circumstances.
We have to learn from Aquilani. I think Aquilani had the ability to be brilliant for us but his fitness held him back.
