First real sign of ill- discipline in the tournament really .. England doing well to keep out of trouble .
I have taken a breather and calmed myself down with a nice dram of Bruichladdich 10 year laddy and I still feel that Camaroon must be punished. That behaviour being shown all around the world is bringing the game into disrepute. Heavy fine and lengthy ban!!!
Another VAR decision in the France Brazil game - going against the hosts for once. Again not really conclusive either way. Maybe they should just agree to use VAR for really bad errors but then I guess we'd all argue most are if it goes against us! Part of the trouble is these days we get instant replays meaning managers and pundits go well had the ref seen this etc so the authorities probably don't want all that dominating the game. I think the refs in this competition might be inexperience or thinking as its on the world stage they to use the system to double check...and more.
Never a dull moment. Well done to the English girls keeping their heads. Poor from Cameroon. Can't have that sort of behaviour on the field.
Felt sorry for Japan last night... they were there the underdogs but much more the skilful side... hit the bar shot wide etc.... and then beathen by one of those VAR penalites.... and why their player should be booked for that ball to hand is beyond me
I am beginning to think that the old system that the referee is always right, even when clearly wrong had some merit. I certainly didn't think the player was trying to gain an advantage, and a yellow card was just plain stupid.
VAR will certainly be a game changer and lead to more penalties and less argy bargy in the box.. With the rule about coming off the line (although not monitored by VAR) I think we will see more goals.. But to book someone for what happened yesterday is a backwards step..
When will we get to a sensible arrangement whereby the clock is stopped as soon as the ball is 'dead'. playing time of 60 minutes. would stop all timewasting, play acting and other nonsense. I for one don't need any additional 'injury time' excitement.
