The crazy thing is they have never missed a pk in a women's World Cup, 16 straight goals.

Hope not, don't think either team deserve it, maybe there's an opening for whoever wins the Canada/England game as I can't see the Japs winning again or whoever else is left

I fancied France in the shootout even so as they had several cool cucumbers in the team, quite odd that le Sommer or Henry didn't step up?

Amazing record. Combine that with their mens team WC penalty record and they must be far ahead of any other country. Typical German efficiency.

Abby Wambach not starting for the US as striker. Bit of a surprise although she's been well below her best so far this tournament. Don't be surprised to see her come on later and score the key goal. Big game player!!

I wouldn't have started her either. They are forced to play one formation with her in and she has not linked up well with anyone. With her out it will make the U.S. a more dynamic team.

Good luck to our lasses tonight v Canada in the quarters, they have a great chance to make the semi and after seeing the teams that are left there is no reason why they couldn't make the final and even win the World Cup. Match coverage starts at 12am tonight so if it goes to pens will be a long night. I'd like to see Ellen White get another chance ahead of Duggan and more adventurous tactics from the kick-off instead of holding formations then offensive substitutions in the second half, lets get at them, get a two goal lead then gain confidence that way instead of scrapping the whole 90 minutes. Come on England!

Just on the bus to go watch the Aus v Jap, think the heat could play a big part in today's games it's already 26C in Edmonton.
Just hope it's a bit cooler in Vancouver as the fake turf gives of more heat than grass does

To be fair, Canada have had some good chances and not taken them.

    A bit City-esque.

A severe lack of being able to pass the ball and keep any sort of possession just rumbles on Decade after Decade

For all the advances in the women's game over the past 20 years, the goalkeeping remains largely shocking.

The last waltz for the Matildas today. Their appearance in the last 8, however, has eclipsed the Aussie men's WC efforts as they have never reached this stage.

It's a first for me, staying up to watch lasses play footie. Half-time, 2-1, and enjoying it. I've never been a big follower, but I love their attitude. I agree with Tuckin, though goalkeeping is not too great but then again, it was no worse than some PL spills I've seen. Come on girls, do yourselves proud!

Aye. You'd expect some better ball handling skills from the women.
