It's quite amazing (not in amazing in a positive way, just surprising) how badly Saints have fallen. They went from Premier League National Divison (when it was the top league) down as low as the Southern League (so that's four divisions) but now seem to be rooted in the South West Combination or whatever. Just to give you an idea, in the Hampshire Cup last season they lost 4-0 to Aldershot Town. In the final of the same competition, Aldershot Town were hammered 13-0 by Pompey. But it's a shame. It'd be good if Southampton were in the same league and a reasonably good side (not better than us though!) as it'd be good to have a rivalry. Sure there's Brighton, but meh, it's not the same.

As for the England game, I didn't see it unfortunately. How was it? Were we unlucky to lose? I know there was an own goal, but aside from that?

Only saw bits, but looked pretty poor and woeful defending. Spain, according to the commentators, are the weakest team in the competition. Hope Powell blamed nerves, that old excuse a manager uses to deflect any blame from their selections/tactics etc.

    Well remembered LFF, thanks.

England were pretty woeful. Our most dangerous player Aluko was played so deep in midfield she had little effect on the game. The striker White was pretty isolated and there were plenty of aimless hoofs upfield

Great, women's football gets an unprecedented amount of coverage and they respond by playing ****e, which is really going to convince the Duckhunters of the world. That's so typically English <doh>

Yeah, still got it! Actually, Sue Buckett was the one I worked with, Sue Lopez was kind of famous, I think she turned pro and played in Italy or somewhere, and Pat Chapman was the tough little winger who shoulder charged my mate who needed stitches. So maybe not quite so impressive.

I didn't appreciate having to listen to Trevor Brooking at half time, either.

Yesterday certainly backed up my side of the argument that chicks cant play football.

Firstly, there was the head of Spurs ladies on talksport. He said that teams should be in the top flight based on how big the men's teams are. He said nobody wants to watch Durham or Yeovil but would watch men's premier league women's teams. He also said that Doncaster weren't in the top flight because Man C had a bigger men's teams. Is this some sort of joke, how can a sport be taken seriously when the very fundamentals of sport ( it is merit based) are thrown away in a rush to jump on the back of the men's game. Just goes to prove it is a complete and utter Mickey mouse "sport".

Secondly, I watched the "highlights" (ha ha that's a joke, I'd hate to have seen the low lights) of England against Spain. I can only presume that whoever posted that technically they're as good as men had been on a Gazza like bender. Every single goal was poorly defended, the keeper was a frigging joke, and the screaming of the crowd was like a witches coven. I can only assume that the people defending this so called sport on here are trolls having a wind up. I would rather watch the Dog & Duck against the Red Lion on BBC, it is clearly political correctness gone made. The BBC should be ashamed of itself , putting rubbish like this on TV and on it's website.

To be fair, she has a point to some extent although that should certainly not be the only criteria. It just makes sense that a women's team which is affiliated (however losely) with a men's team will have the potential to tap into that fanbase, with people showing an interest in the women's team because they represent the same city/town/whatever as the men's team. Teams like South Durham don't even have a men's team as far as I'm aware, or if they do, they're so low down that their fanbase must be tiny so the women's team can't tap into that fanbase While Pompey Ladies could tap into the 15k or so at Fratton Park, or Leeds Ladies could tap into the 30k or so at Elland Road. Which is why I think South Durham were a ridiculous decision. However, I do think the situation with Doncaster and Man City is a complete joke (as you can probably tell from my sig pic) and relegation should not be decided by how big a club is, so yes, I agree that is horrendous decision and has done a lot of damage to the women's game.

As for for the England game, anyone would be stupid to base their entire views of a woman's game on one single match. And why shouldn't they be on BBC3 or the website? You're not forced to watch/read it, so just ignore it if you're not interested. Plus the fact is, the players are still English and represent England so they deserve support no less than the men do. Especially as compared to male footballers, they're barely paid anything so they're playing for the love of the game, rather than money. And maybe the quality wasn't fantastic, but does that matter? If Southampton were relegated and sold Gaston and Lallana and Cork and Lambert and replaced them with awful players, you'd still support them, wouldn't you? Didn't you support Southampton when they were relegated to League 1? Or do you only support 'good teams'?

Firstly, you are showing a very sexist view, the Spurs person was a bloke. Do you not think blokes should be involved in chick football, or is your default position, "it's women football, must be a chick".

Secondly, it was not just England who were rubbish, the whole thing was rubbish, including the crowd. Like 2,000 nagging fishwives. The technique was rubbish, the chicks were clearly unfit and the whole thing was one big bore.

It's a joke "sport", where they don't have proper leagues based on merit, and it's only on TV because of political correctness. As a licence fee payer I object to funding this rubbish.

That's a bit rich, coming from you. Sorry but you said no mention of the person's gender and tbh, I don't really care what the gender is of the head, plus, do you mean the manager or what?

Like I said, ONE match. One friggin' match. Shall I go on Youtube and find a rubbish Southampton match during your relegation season where there was a rubbish atmosphere? Then let's make wild claims about the whole of men's football based on that one match. See, I can use hyperbole too.

So what makes it a joke sport? Are we talking about quality again? Because by that logic Conference football could be seen as a joke sport. And I think it's completely disrespectful to claim it's not a sport just because the quality might not be Men's Premier League level, it should have the same respect as any other sport, it still requires athletic and technical ability, tactics and so on. It's on TV because there's interest which was clearly seen during the Olympics. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I find Eastenders rubbish but I'm not having a hissy fit over it like you are over women's football

    Calm down dear......

It is a joke sport, what sort of "sport" promotes teams on the basis of support rather than merit. It is letting a lot of women's sports down, sports like Hockey, Beach Volleyball, Netball and some athletics are great for chicks. By trying to align themselves to men's football, chick football is doing women everywhere a disservice. A minority sport like chicks football should not be on our national broadcaster before proper chick sports like I've listed. It's just political correctness.

Why don't you tell us who you think are the prettiest male players CBK?

Women's football isn't to everyone's taste, and good on you for giving it a go, but if you're watching it for that reason you're doing it wrong.

I happened to flick the game on and watched the last few minutes. Nice finish for England's goal.

I must say that is a ridiculous hairstyle.
