Weird- we always seem so unlucky when we hit the Prem and generally get lots of luck when we're in the Champs. I know there are some good logical reasons for this - you're more likely to get a lucky deflection for a goal if you're in their area and more likely to suffer an unlucky deflection for a goal against if they are in yours - but surely this should not extend to the drawing of numbers from a bag. Given that Man City and Liverpool are way better than any other English clubs at the moment, and given that Liverpool always thump us, away to Liverpool was the worst possible draw for us. There were 16 teams, so the chances of us getting away to Liverpool was 30/1.
30/04/1994, my one and only visit to Anfield, last game in front of a standing kop, last away game of the season, Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish, Gerry Marsden all out on the pitch .....and Jerry Goss rains on their parade by hitting a trademark half volley from the corner of the box into the top corner. Cue mental celebrations in the away end
DD: 'Handley isn't Premier league class' Said someone Robbie: Whoever it was, is right I don't really believe in this idea that some players are clearly 'Premier class' and others clearly aren't. Football is a team sport and it's quite possible for the same player to struggle and look poor in one midtable Prem set-up and to shine and look good in a different midtable Prem set-up. Yes, a few players are clearly head and shoulders above the rest and are bound to stand out, but I think the majority could be anything from upper-mid Prem to mid-lower Champs based on how lucky they are in terms of fitting in with their teammates and the system that the club plays.
Good quality CBs are in constant demand so, having reached age 30, I think GH's career is a good indicator of his level. "Early promise never quite fulfilled" sums it up for me. Since being relegated from the top tier with Blackburn, then aged 21, only one club -- ourselves -- have thought Grant could even "do a job for them" at Premier league level.
This comes from a negative view that Norwich are a Championship club at best handed a season in the Premier League. IF we manage to survive then we reclaim our Premier league status with Championship players .
Wow Robbie, you really cannot accept being wrong can you. The fact that it’s well known centre backs typically peak between 28 and 32 you presumably ignore.
Just got off the phone with my mate that works in the Hippodrome Leicester Square & Grant Hanley came in a couple of weeks ago dropped £9k on Roulette and walked out with £20k. Didn't tip a cent the tight bugger
I remember our 1988 1-0 win at Anfield because the goal came courtesy of an own goal by Lawro in front of the Kop!
It's great news that Max is not the only saleable jewel left in our crown. I'm going to be waiting with bated breath for Grant's big move in the summer to a top tier club needing a Premier League quality CB at the peak of his game ...........
I don't fear relegation & we aren't winning the FA Cup, but survival will mean we keep hold of Normann & Kabak if he comes good possibly Aarons unless he wants a big payday . 2022 has given me hope we can win a few and keep a clean sheet If that ends in survival then fantastic.
Yeah agreed, I’m now optimistic that the rest of this season may not end in survival, but at least it won’t be constant hammering and zero points I hope we do manage to play some decent football again though…
