Hmm, from the sections I listened to he wasn't really mentioned. Whoscored rated him as the 8th best Norwich player. Maybe he ran around a lot but just didn't do much? Match stats look impressive. Looks like we matched them. Leitners passing stats were pretty boss.
"We control games and look to exhaust opponents. That helps us to score late goals." Could do with turning equalisers into winners, but it is good to see that work starting to pay off.
I watched the Sky highlights and JR could have done better for Basil's goal, but Reed had a great chance early on before Wolves' first goal and couldn't quite chip the ball over JR Ain't that the truth - 9 shots on goal and 6 of them on target!! Edit - Some great comments from PD in his 'five pointers' after each match - 'This was Derby County and then some in the manner they suffocated the best team in the division, starving them of possession and limiting those devastating counter-attacking bursts.' We just need to maintain the same urgency in the next few games, all of which are winnable. If someone had offered me to not lose our last 3 games at the beginning of the month, I'd have snapped their hand off. Highlights here - http://www.skysports.com/football/wolves-vs-norwich/375014
You mean 'didn't do much' like this from the BBC: "Wolves seemed sure to score when Helder Costa got clear after Zimmerman's slip, but the covering Mario Vrancic defied a handball shout to somehow clear." Vrancic was actually joint 6th on Whoscored along with Hanley and Watkins. Given that he was playing a DM type role, he did well overall. 6.8 is a good rating. He'd have been 4th highest in the Wolves team.
Paddy's comment is spot on. I thought we could be in for a hammering when we went 2-0 down. The possession stats were 56%/44% at that time, but we turned that around completely to 44%/56% in our favour against the runaway leaders at their place. We've done that in all of the last four matches. Leitner's outstanding pass success rate is one reason, but our overall pass success rate was 86% which is outstanding against such a good side. If we can improve our scoring, this could turn into a really good run.
Should we get to the play offs, and I do not believe that we will, I think we would enter them in high spirit and almost with the favourites tag. These last two away matches against the teams in the top two, at the time of playing them, depict just how much progress we have made in the last few months. On a different note, doesn't Godfrey play RB as well as DM?
Spot on GE and our performances against teams above us in the league bode well for the future - we have to really score a few goals on Saturday and continue the upwards trajectory for the remainder of the season and who knows where that may leave us?? Godfrey played as CB for several games for our under 23s last season, so can't comment on the possibility of him playing RB.
Given that Trybull is injured, I suspect that is a very Wolves oriented assessment. On the Whoscored ratings, the team would be 7/4 in our favour.
Very much agree on the progress being made now. Even if we don't make the playoffs this year, we should be strong for next season. Yes, we might lose Maddison, but if we do, it could be that we go to a 3-4-3 formation with two wide players like Wolves used last night. Godfrey has played at RB and AN couldn't decide what was his best position - DM, RB or CB. It looks now like it's DM, but he could cover at RB/WB much the way Reed has done recently.
Well of course they are older so would struggle more than younger players. On the other hand they were all working harder each week under AN last season. Maybe AN's idea of working harder and DF normal training routine are different.
What a remarkable piece of defending by Zimmerman after his mistake at giving the ball away. Literally putting his head on the line showed much courage as this could have resulted in serious injury. There seems to be a never say die spirit in the team which has been a feature of previous Canary squads. Oh how I wish we could score more goals: we would be in top 6 without question.
It could be that DF's extra sessions aren't just fitness sessions, but rather practice sessions working on tactics. Much of the problem in the first half of the season was getting the players, particularly the older players, to incorporate a new way of playing. With half of the squad now being continental players, this is less difficult. It certainly seems to be paying off in recent matches.
To be honest it's not the scoring that's been the problem (although it would obviously help) if our home form was better than we would easily be in the top 6.
tbf so long as we keep a clean sheet, we only need to score one goal per game! If my maths is any good, I'd say 46 x 1-0 wins would probably get us promoted!
Lewis OG was so unlucky. I can't even see from the replay that it went over the line. Bad defending by us for their Corner, like the Ipswich game. Zimmerman wins basically a slide tackle on the flood with his face, which is insane! Love it! Nelson goal took some balls. For a man with no confidence, to score and even decide to shoot from them. Really good.
Apparently the referee pointed to his watch for the first goal. I know we have goal-line technology but I thought it was only used in the Prem
Said on the commentary that it has been used in the Championship from the start of this season. Didn't look in, and the slow mo didn't look in, but was hard to tell with so many on the line. Would like to see another angle.
