It was a good win, we played really well and deserved it. The sending off gave us a massive advantage of course, but our urgency and commitment was spot on and we took the game to Wolves, we made it look easy because our performance enabled us to do so. But what was also good was that we showed really good concentration in all areas for the whole game.
Ramsey looked better because he was playing against a terrible team who were reduced to 10 men leading to acres of space all over the pitch. So in that sense, yes he was better than he's been lately, but not through any actual improvement in his form.
This is the most encouraging thing about the last two performances - so often we have failed to capitalise on chances to gain ground or pull clear. We've shown great levels of concentration and commitment over the last two games especially. For the first time in a long time it looks like we are relentlessly completing the job. The team is getting that 'swagger' back - and it's great to finally see it.
With a goalkeeper that just inspires confidence... have to also give a quick mention to the much maligned Djourou also. He was solid today.
That's the thing, we've all lowered the standard by which to judge him over the last year. Before his injury he was the guy we relied to be as the stand in for Fabregas when we needed it. Nowadays if one of his frequent possession losses isn't the cause of a goal, and if he just keeps doing his 5 meter passbacks* to the players he got the ball from, slowing down play any chance he gets, he had a "very good game". * which as PISKIE has pointed a zillion times contribute to a good "completed pass" rate. Yay statistics .
Holy ****. Just seen the goals Ronaldo scored tonight. One a stunning free kick and then a long range strike.
Yea i used to dislike his play a lot when he was at ManU, but the guy deserves every praise he gets. Incredible influence every single game, and continues to work hard to improve his game.
The way he strikes the ball is just sensational. Dare I say, better than Messi at that aspect of the game?
Djourou was, as people have pointed out, solid again. but then, he's always solid when played at CB. its only when on the right that he is terrible, and that started people saying he needs to be replaced. a very good option for 4th CB imo.
He's made some mistakes this season, but show me a player who hasn't (RVP aside possibly) generally JD is pretty solid at CB and he had a good game last night. I don't buy the 'it was easy' stuff because Wolves went down to 10 men. It handed us an advantage, but we still had to put in the work to get the win - I thought we were really good all over the pitch.
