If I’m to believe some of what I’ve read, we’re in a much better place than last season. Strange, I don’t feel much like celebrating though
Thought there was a clear gulf in quality and money spent on show in the early stages, and going 1 down was no surprise. After we got one back early doors second half we competed better, made them look much less composed and showed that we're not the sh1te some claim - an achievement in itself. The Viera sending off ended it as a contest - ref couldn't wait to get the card out - but even at 10 men our attitude and football was ok, against the best side in the league atm. Alioski scored a cracker, looking like a natural finisher again after busting his balls to get there for the second game in a row. We're not the finished article but to claim this is the worst side since 2010 is just nonsense. We're not the relegation contenders some scare-mongerers claim, but a strong vocal partner for Jansson as an absolute minimum is needed in January if we are to stand any chance of competing for top 6. Agree with this Davy, but a better goalkeeper is a must, hopefully we will get the players needed in january
There is no hiding place for a goalkeeper when things are going wrong but if TC doesn't find one for Lonergan then his short tenure will deservedly be over. How he could keep faith with him after the Brentford display beggared believe considering the magnitude of the errors. In fact, I believe TC's race is now run...too many poor selections and tactics have made it virtually impossible for him to survive. The easiest way to rejuvenate a squad of players is to give them a new coach so that's what will surely happen after the weekend. Any sympathy I had for TC has been eroded by the following repeated mistakes, Cooper as captain...never been a good enough defender and certainly not a leader. Beradi as left back...glaring obvious as a weak link both defensively and going forward. Goalkeeper...decided wrongly in my opinion to make the change but then stubbornly stuck to it. If he wants to keep his job then he will have to do something radical on Saturday and I hope he is brave enough make the necessary changes and prove he has the ability to think and act to save himself.
I don't see what he can do that is going to be radical. He has tried both keepers and both appear to be as ****e as the other. I suppose Peacock-Farrell is the last throw of the dice until the window opens again. As for on pitch I really don't see what he can do. In my opinion he has too many players of dubious quality so it would very much like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic......****ing waste of time!
Hmm it always strikes me as odd that the manager (sorry, coach) gets blamed virtually 100% for failings. Yet we have had many years of owners failing to properly strengthen the team, and we now even have Orta bringing in the players. We have obvious problems in goal, left back and in my view lack at least one player able to turn a fullback, plus our strikers all have weaknesses. Best we could hope for given all that is to scrape into top 6. So right now we are a few points off the best we could reasonably hope for. Maybe a different manager would have had us in 6th - though plenty wouldn’t. Seems clear to me we need personnel in Jan to mount a more serious challenge.
