Fair points Thurnby and you may well be right - I am going to trust AN 100% in this regard. I think if there's any chance of RvW being a success, AN will give him that opportunity. The only thing I would say is I don't think very successful strikers like RvP or even Harry Kane are particularly physical, so I think you can manage without this (though maybe that's to do with the team around them)
I find it hilarious calling Snodgrass the "wasteful" one in a conversation about RVW. Snodgrass did manage to find the net half a dozen times at least, and he set a fair few up as well. He certainly did well enough to win the player of the season award as well - I wonder how many votes Ricky got? I'll never forget that pass to nobody in the Fulham game from the Wolf with Snoddy screaming for the ball in the box, probably about as wasteful as it gets that was, but I guess people are entitled to believe what they want to believe.
Mentioned this on another thread, but I wonder if St Etienne might be interested in a swap deal of RvW for Max Gradel, who apparently wants a crack at the PL.
That would make the Norwich - Leeds connection a pan European affair, Rick. No, that's wrong, we've had Becchio already - so it's a global affair I like the sound of that
I'm sure the entire football club would love to change places! Them, chaos, sub-plots, indecision, fit-and-proper ownership failure, .... Us, secure, debt-free, promoted, solid boardroom, great camaraderie and work ethic..... Tricky one to decide on
I cannot see him returning to St Ettiene bearing in mind his fairly average record there, the fact that as the season progressed he appeared to feature less and less and the fee we need to get for him. There is also the question of his wages. Last season under the terms of his contract his wages dropped - now we are back in the Premiership they go up. Could St Ettiene afford that? I really do suspect that we are stuck with him and can but hope for another AN miracle?
And how often did Snodgrass have a pointless shot on goal? Or slowed down attacks? or lost the ball by trying to take on one too many players? let's not forget that superb penalty he took against Hull too. Never said he was an atrocious player, he just didn't compliment the forwards and was a greedy player at times. The player of the season award. I forgot the amazing Lee Croft won the award back in the 2008-2009, I can't think of more deserving player to achieve that accolade in such a successful season.
Not sure I agree with this. I certainly think the Championship is more physical than the Premier League. Though compared to some of the other top leagues in Europe it is pretty physical, I guess. I think it will largely depend on the player himself - if he is up for it I think Neil will give him the chance to prove himself in pre-season.
Vadis has been injured most of the season. Can't see how we could expect much from him. I can see him being the surprise package next season.
We paid good money for Vadis and he wasn't injured for the first few months he just played a few minutes here and there. I hope he turns out to be good but the signing was a massive damp squib. IMO.
We have bought some right turkeys in the past, rememeber when we had the choice of signing Darren Beckford or Robbie Earle ?
How many truthfully thought that Bassong would ever get another crack at this club, let alone hit the levels he has since his return which I do feel had a huge contribution to where we are now? So maybe an arm around the shoulder during the summer by AN and a second chance might restore the talent that he must have, even though he's done his best to hide it from us, might return and we get the striker we all hoped we'd bought? I say bring him back.
I think Snodgrass made our team quite disjointed. Hughton was obviously a manager who was happy soaking up pressure to hit teams on the break which doesn't make much sense with Snodgrass as he is slow for a winger and he also hangs on to the ball for way too long at time. I don't think he was bad and I'm not knocking him, but he didn't suit our style and giving him the ball to constantly try and whip a good ball on RVW's head doesn't show much logic. The worse thing RVW done was score that cracking header against Everton. I would go out on a wim and say one of few headers he's scored in his career. After that our whole gameplan relied on putting balls in the box for a Grant Holt type player, sadly not a RVW type player. We're a different team now. I don't know how we will play next season but I do think it'll be a 'show no fear' type attitude which I think is more successful. Our team were 'hard to beat' at times during Hughton's reign but we were also an 'easy clean sheet' for the opposition.
Apart from that penalty miss (Which I thought RVW should have taken it) I don't think he did much wrong and was one of our better players that season.
I believe I saw reference to the fact that Lee Croft also won this prestigious award once. Best of a bad bunch, then - though that was Hughton's fault far more than Snodgrass - or RvW's.
