remember this is April 1st 2010 to March 31st 2011 so you were in the championship for some of it but.

Wage aportionate to wage bill for you is 90%, next season it wont be that as you will get more cash from TV but it will still be pushing 80% i would imagine.

It will be no where near 80% like. We are on course to break even next season. It will probbly be around the 60% mark.

Our turnover in 10/11 will be somewhere around £90 million. Our wages were £47.5 million in 09/10, so I can't see us giving out £25 million more in wages last season compared to the previous one. Some of course, but I can't see our wages being more than 75% (tops!) of our turnover. Closer to 70%

We made a net loss of about £20mil the season we were in the Championship (or so i heard)

Considering the extra TV/Sponsorship money we get from the premiership and the fact we've been trying to cut wages i think we're quite confortable

Definitely. In 08/09 we had a turnover of £86 million, with expenses of £98 million. So last season, I'd guess we got around £85-90 million again, but with expenses of about £85 million. Take away money we made from transfers (e.g. whatever we don't reinvest in the playing squad from the Carroll-Nolan sales) and it looks a bit tastier than a few years ago at least

Sorry to post such a SAFC centric post here, but the Sunderland OP was ****ing over our situation, which is far from perfect, but with a few tweaks could be a lot better.

Not sure what to make of our finance situation overall. At the end of the season I though we were heading down the slashing of the wage bill path, when you look at all the players who had left (Bent, Zenden, Mensah, Onuoha, Henderson, Muntari and Welbeck. Riveros out on loan) Admittedly a chunk of that lot were loans, but we were paying their wages, most of whom were on pretty big wages at that.

Yet we've gone on a signing spree, and I think the good work we did in moving on high wage players, still isnt over. McCartney, Nosworthy and Kilgallon are rumoured to be on 110k together, which is unacceptable. Moving that trio on would make me a lot more relaxed about finances, but when you look at who we have signed (or basically have):

    Dong- Probably a fair wage

Wickham - Likewise, probably not astronomical, but we did have to persuade him to pick us over the scousers so likely a bit more

Larsson - Worryingly rumours of 50k a week for him. Thankfully he was free so that offsets it somewhat, but would rather its 30-40k

Brown- No idea but wont be cheap

Gardner - Somewhere in the 30-40k bracket I think

Westwood -25k I think. If we move Gordon on we will lose a 40k per week player.

O'Shea (If it happens): Like brown, probably 40-50k AT LEAST. Good players but we need to move on deadwood to accommodate.

Vaughan (If it happens); Great first season, left footed, can replace Zenden for no transfer fee and wages rumoured to be between 25-30k which definitely isn't bad for a player who won Blackpool's player of the season ahead of Adam.

If we moved the following lot on for example, we would reduce the wage bill by literally, hundreds of thousands.

Ferdinand; Ridiculous wages, huge transfer fee, nowhere near fulfilled his potential. Solid squad player, nothing more, and his wage doesn't justify this
Malbranque; Great player but our signings suggest he is being replaced
Gordon; Awesome on his day, injured far too much at 40k a week, can make a few mill back off him
Nosworthy, Kilgallon, McCartney; 110k for 3 players who dont actually "play" is madness. Not PL standard and representative of the Keane era of "Problem? Throw some money at it"
Angeleri; Clearly a failed experiment, likely on big wages for someone who also, doesn't actually play.

If we could shift EVERY last one of these players, I would be a lot more optimistic about our new signings, as I feel like for like, they trump nearly all of them (Perhaps with the exception of Gordon) For similar wages.

Which is why I think all these comparisons about "Which Newcastle/Sunderland players would get into the other team's squad" are irrelevant, as we are both different clubs, with different managers, with different playing styles and philosophies. Personally, I think a lot of our players wouldn't get into Newcastle's squad, likewise I think the majority of your lot wouldn't get into ours.

Neither teams' fans prove anything by providing endless stats showing which player scored more per minutes, who had the most successful tackles or completed passes.

For example Marveaux may perform better for NUFC because he is around French speaking players who he knows, as opposed to if he played for us, where he would be far more of an outcast.

Likewise Larsson, who played his best football under Bruce, and wanted to play under him again, would probably play better for us than Newcastle because of this.
