We now have a choice up front from: Gornell, Bradshaw, Parry, Winnall, Doble and Wright. What combination would be best? Admittedly it opens the door to GT trying out some alternative pairings. One combo could be parry and Gornell which might be good as gornell holds up well and parry can shoot on target!!
I agree with AJ - I said after Winnall's debut he looked the kind of player who would be suited to Gornell's front play but Morgan's ability to actually score, create problems and chances and hassle defenders has meant dropping him was unthinkable. His suspension means we have to try something else, but I'd expect Turner to partner Parry with Winnall, or possibly Gornell. Also, it means Marv gets a break - he's looked knackered earlier and earlier on in games this season.
Agree with Lenny it will give Marv a rest which he probably needs and if we don't see a new loanee this week then I would like to see Winnall & Gornell as they looked quite promising when they came on.
Parry and Gornell, and i still cant for the life in me see why a striker that hasn't scored many goals this early in the season needs a REST!!
More league goals than most this season though (including a certain Jimmy Collins), I really don't see what your problem with him is. Fact is he's probably been our second best player this season. He works incredibly hard (which is why he needs breathers, he's started every single match and stamina's never been his strong point - I don't see how scoring goals tires someone out more than someone who doesn't score), hassles defenders, holds the ball up and creates chances. He gave Parry a chance on a plate yesterday which he ballooned over, gave Jones a sitter against Crewe in the JPT which he missed, won a penalty at County and has made plenty more goals which I cannot recall off the top of my head.
I agree there is no point villifying Morgan. He doesn't seem to tire compared with others. As regards yesterday, I am not going to prejudge the reasons for the sending off. Could be an over fussy referee. Morgan's disciplinary record has been much better than last season. At the start he was being booked almost every other game but yesterday I think was only his second booking this season. Morgan's sending off was not solely responsible for our losing. It was more to do with kamikaze defending.
any striker or forward can "hassle" defenders, its just that Morgan is the only one in our team to do it to any degree...but his job is to score goals....and you can count on two hands and three feet how many clear cut chances he's missed this season already...and then scoring a goal and then gets himself sent off for decent at the same time!!...how does that help the team for gods sake!!...
+ ha,ha i meant Dissent , but looking at it now perhaps the word i used is more appropriate, but yes you can look on the inconsistency of refs but if you keep your mouth shut, you will have a pretty good chance of finishing the game, to be honest though it will be nice to see if we have a bonding with another couple of our strikers, this sending off may be a blessing in disguise
......we could do with Wright finding some confidence to beat people and hence create chances for himself and others. I think we all knew all the other traits our players have but feel sad and disappointed that he has not 'been at the races' this season. Potential matchwinner if he gets it 'wright'!
At thirty years old he shouldn't be suffering from the jitters, half the time he looks like he cant be bothered being on the pitch, and as ive said before i think the only reason we signed him was on the back of that hat trick he scored against Hereford. but he's got to be worth another chance without Marv being there, it will be interesting to see what sort of attacking line up GT goes for
Morgan's sending off does, for me, raise an interesting point. According to the 4th official it was for intimidating the referee. If it had been Taylor (ie.short and white) would he have been sent off? I have long had the impression that referees over-react when booking or sending off black players.
all i can do is reiterate what i said before even if your black or white...keep your mouth shut and get on with the game...although Morgan has come out and said it was his fault, he done this sort of thing at other clubs, and refuses to learn from his mistakes..
Agree. Also tall or powerful players (as you implied) and strikers (in general, not in this particular context) are much more likely to be punished in my opinion.
That's fine if it always happened thus. I have seen players this season accost the referees far worse than Morgan did and not warrant a booking. Consistency is what is required. My favourite referee of all time was the much maligned Clive Thomas. No-one dared talk to him for fear of a booking and he didn't even have to pace out 10 yards for free kicks because the wall automatically stood that distance away and even further.
