I know folk will disagree with this formation, mainly due to Clarke being used a wingback but think this way we get 1 or 2 strikers on the pitch but i think a 3421 or 3412 suits us

    Patto
    O9 ballard cirkin
Pembele (big fan of his) neil ekwah clarke
    Pritchard jobe
    Rusyn

Back up team in this formation
    Bishop
    Hume seelt alese
    Roberts evans rigg huggins
    Adil
    Mayenda Hemir

Harsh on hume in 1st team so could swap him and o9

Roberts would be a poor wingback so realistic would only play him there when chasing a game

Not a fan of a 3 at the back to be honest think we struggle enough as it is to break down teams and we’d have to play Clarke as a wing back. Too many players would miss out to accommodate another CB. Good for games we’re expected to be under the cosh but that’s rare as we’ve seen the last season and a half.

Personally think we’d struggle to have a set in stone best Xl because of our full backs. Spoilt for choice at the minute all over the pitch but one glaring issue that we persist with is Hume and Roberts - they don’t work for me. Roberts can’t play the wing by himself he’d be much better with Pembele on that side as Hume tends to not overlap.

    I’d like to see;

    Patterson
    Pembele Seelt Ballard Cirkin
    Neil Bellingham
    Roberts Dack Clarke
    Rusyn

    Alternatively

    Patterson
    Hume Seelt Ballard Huggins
    Neil Bellingham
    Ba Pritchard Clarke
    Rusyn

My thinking behind the 3 at the back is getting 3 attacking players high up the pitch and have them rotating.

Clarke has played really well as a wingback for us in the past - he would still have the license to get forward but would be harder to double mark as he would be attacking from deeper

I coach a team and the most attacking formation we play is with a back 3, we play with 2xno10s and defences find it so hard to mark them as they both roam

    From what I’ve seen
    Patto
    Hume onien ballard cirkin
    Neil Ekwah
    Robert pritch Clarke
    Jobe
Coin flip with alese at lb though

Id like to see us try
    Patto
    Hume Ballard alese cirkin
    Onien
    Ekwah Neil
    Roberts jobe Clarke

pemebele/Huggins could force their way in and maybe Hume for onien. Jobe rotates with neil/Ekwah once a suitable striker is found. They’d have license to go forward though, none would be in a ‘holding’ role, I don’t think any of the three suit it.

Hopefully you’re right, just haven’t seen enough yet. Hoping the likes of him, Pembele, ba end up forcing their way in as starters, if they do then that’s some squad for options

I think he's got great potential, but I think he would a need to be part of a midfield 3 to really shine

That’s a fair one mate I’m just a casual who played a bit when I was younger and spends too long playing/reading online I don’t coach or anything so you’ll know more about that undoubtedly!

Think most of my pessimism comes from seeing every “big” manager that tends to play it has fell off quite a bit last 5 years or so bar Peps 3 at the back with no full backs because he’s a clever f*cker :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I think of boring Italian football and Conte/Mourinho spring to mind setting up to not get beat. Spurs were crap for ages and kept employing managers who preferred the 3 with wing backs and you always thought they weren’t exciting to watch but tricky for the bigger teams to play against then Ange comes in and switches to a back 4 and they look great.

Eintracht are a good 3 at the back “spursy” example struggled this season so far some really poor results including a loss to Aberdeen then beat Bayern 5-1!!

    Yeah there are good choices
And we do have plenty of back up for our match day squad

One issue the squad size raises is there is unlikely to be any signings at all in January unless someone is shifted.

    edit::

This is not an issue at all in reality, unless you're the type to need your dopamine signing fix.

To he honest I don't have a clue.

I'd normally look for a settled side playing well and get on with it. However the options that we have it may be a case of horses for courses and adjusting the team and formation to give us the best chance of winning each game depending upon type of opposition. Football is a squad game now and whilst we have a good group of players who seem to get on that approach may give us the best opportunity to keep players happy and get results.

But, what do I know, I'm just some bloke sitting in a comfy chair pressing some keys on a keyboard. I'm pleased that, that particular problem lies with Mr Beale and I'm sure it's a problem that he won't mind, too much.

Right get the players in the gym, bench pressing and dead lifting, we will soon find out who our strongest players are.

Oh, hang on, that still might not give us our strongest team.

    Back to the drawing board
