True. It's a disappointment given what could have been this season but now 6th is all but mathematically gone we need to focus on finishing as high as possible so we are seen from the outside as a 'bigger' club than this time last year. Surely if we finish 7th we can't be ignored again next season?

So very true. Its just your mind goes back to the 2 Burnley games and the Ipswich home game. 6 more points and 4th spot would be on. But i would prefer to miss out on promotion like this than face a play-off semi or worse still final heartbreak. By missing out like we shall Should be the only motivation the squad needs for next season. imo.

I studied the fixtures yesterday and even if we end up equal points with Blackpool and Cardiff we will lose out because of goal difference. Apparently Nick has said on the radio that he realises it is our lack of goals that has cost us the chance of top 6. With the remarks Fryatt has made about how hard it is being the lone striker I am assuming that Nick has sacrificed the chance of us making the play offs for the sake of getting the team to play exactly how he wants them to play, I have heard he is stubborn so would not have changed it even to score more goals. Just hope he can get it sorted next season. By the way I am not Nick bashing just telling it how it appears to be from his interviews and Fryatt's interviews.

To be honest I'd rather we finished as high as possible just because it'd give us a better chance of attracting players next season but I see your point about losing in the playoffs.

That's not necessarily right as it would depend on the scorelines. To be level on points with Cardiff we would have to win both games and they lose both theirs. As someone else has posted, if we won our games 2-0 and 3-0, and Cardiff lost both theirs by the same scoreline we would be above them on goal difference

Its not Nicks systems that has cost us at all. The simple fact is that Matty and the rest have missed chances ALL pro footballers should be able to take with there eyes shut. Thats an area that needs fixing for next season by the players who will remain. Fryatt has been quilty (and he admits it) of awful misses. Barnsley away penalty, Watford last saturday being 2 of the worst but he is not alone. The football Nick wants us to play will create lots of chances for anyone who wants to fill there boots.

Cheers. It took Reading 10 games to get over there Final loss last season. But IF what Nick Barmby says is true he already has the players all lined up now. He just needs the Allams green light. Fingers crossed.

Agree with this too. It's easy to say 'we just weren't good enough' but I'm sure we've been one of the best teams this season in everything but finishing. If Nick can bring in one or two attacking players and get the existing ones all working together a bit better in the last few passes so that these crosses flashed across the goal and missed one-on-ones can be converted into goals next season, then we'll give ourselves a great chance.

The finishing is one issue, the lack of suitable replacements for a few key players is another. You can carry one issue, I mean we were in the playoffs despite the misfiring, but to try to overcome two major problems over a 46 game season was expecting too much. Players being tired and playing poorly and picking up injuries as a result on top of the misfiring was just exposing too many weaknesses at once. Remove either problem and we'd have been in the playoffs, remove both and we'd have been in the top 2, and that's what we should be aiming for next season.

I must have been in a pretty bad mood when I wrote that, I usually just laugh at you're ridiculousness rather than actually allowing myself to be affected by it <doh>
Sorry but, do you even know what fickle means? You use it constantly in the completely wrong context.

<laugh> It's amusing how you jump to the defensive 'You're a ****ing Nazi sheep' position every time someone speaks against you. Maybe they just think you're a moron or they simply disagree with you? It's hardly enough to deserve a retaliation like yours.

Everyone on this planet thinks they're 'different' when in reality we're all very similar, so it does amuse me when people like yourself feel the need to separate yourself from the rest with little things such as 'cool' nicknames like 'Fryup' or your Location 'East Hell' and even your signature.. You're not at all different my friend, you just act different to get attention, and unfortunately I've temporarily bought into that and reacted.

Apologies to the OP and mods for messing up this thread, but do you blame me? ;)
