Just come across some old City Independent fanzines and one in particular caught my eye. It was the one just after Phil Brown had been sacked and replaced by Ian Dowie. It was an article describing the dying embers of the Brown era in particular the feeling of falling out of love with football and the Premier League.. 'I can seriously see the day coming when football is played in an empty stadium with cardboard cut outs replacing the crowd and the atmosphere belted out over the PA system. All for the benefit of the perfect family sat at home on the sofa watching their favourite team of the month, on same satellite channel, probably eating, drinking, even sat on the product of the match sponsor and having a bet with the company logo across their favourite teams matchday shirt'. Remarkable foresight.
Not far off with that . It's a long way off the days when you woke up on a Saturday morning with that excited buzz. Football Special bus to Boothferry Park and coming back on it after Keith Edward's had just put The Blades to the sword . Not successful days just great days
Talking of wise men, what was that pre-season predictions thread called? Be interesting to see how many of us have football pie all over our jerseys with our doom and gloom expectations for this year!
