I was also there last night and here are sme of my thoughts: Like Theo says, I thought Evans was impressive. I've pointed out a few times that I thought he didn't bring much to the team last season, but he did look a lot better last night. He wanted the ball all the time and looked to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Sonny Bradley looks like a decent prospect, very good in the air and strong in the tackle. Dawson did his usual pre-season thing of appearing fresh and fit and getting up and down the wing, but you feel that like most seasons that will deteriorate after a couple of months of the season. I did wonder if Atkinson being converted to a full back might be a reason that we've given him an extra year, he seemed OK there, wasn't tested at the back much but did well going forward. Brady looked very exciting, really quick on and off the ball and very tricky and agile. Koren looked a bit more interested than he has done at times and linke up well with Simpson at times, who made some nice touches outside the area but was useless with his shooting. The one thing I always like about Simpson though is that he is always there for the tap-in, whereas many strikers would be somewhere else trying too hard, Simpson is always the one who stands in the middle for the pull-back pass, and this was how he scored. McLean's finishing was even worse than Simpson's; he regularly backpassed to the keeper particularly in the second half. Gulacsi, Chester, Harper, Ghilas and the young lads were all OKish but didn't get up to much. Just like Ferriby the second half was disrupted by subs and nothing really got going.
I thought last night on the way home for Winterton.......You know something we've got an excellent squad......The kiss of death, or what?
