They'll not hear it, it will be drowned out by the laughter from the Roma chiefs office when he realised we'd taken Lamela off their hands for £30 million (yes he's still laughing now)
On the subject of that U21 game, Veljkovic not being in the squad means we've either accepted a bid...or he's injured, given we appeared to only have four subs on the bench. It's also been reported we've failed in a loan bid for PSG youngster Jean-Kevin Augustin. What is it with us and PSG youngsters? There's the ongoing Rabiot Saga, now it's Augustin - if he was a few years younger we'd be looking to re-sign Stambouli soon.
What with Jan's injury surely a major piece of business that would be good would be Fazio out, a CB in? I mean it was always a desirable outcome even before Jan's injury but it's more so now. If one of our CBs gets injured now we're down to either Fazio at the back (unthinkable really) or Dier dropping back and then we're weakened in MF. Though maybe if that did happen Bentaleb will do what so many players have done this season - take their opportunity once given a chance in the first 11 and grab it with both hands. I certainly think he's got it in him. Would anyone be happy for us to not sign a CB and just hope that Dier moving back and someone like Bentaleb taking over in MF would work should we get another injury/suspension at CB? It's tempting cos, like I say, so many fringe players have come in and done well this season but with us being in 3 competitions and this looking like possibly a breakthrough year in the league I don't like the idea of taking that chance. Holy crap - it's the 26th!
Newcastle agree fee of £12million for Andros Townsend. Good move for all parties. He needs to play regularly to get his career back on track and that wasn't going to happen at Spurs. I wish him well.
fully agree. Whatever you say about him, gave his all for us. Hope it works out at the Toon (although not on the last game of the season)
Yeah best of luck to Andros. Good player on his day but got a bit one dimensional and predictable, he'd probably be ideal as a key player for a side and Newcastle could do with someone to help relieve the pressure on Wijnaldum. £12m is very good for us, barely used this season and never cost us a penny bar wages. Always a shame to see an academy player leave though.
Playing regular Premier League football is a very tough thing to achieve for any modern academy product. It's taken someone like Charlie Daniels a long time and he even had to switch positions to do it. Playing 300+ professional games is pretty bloody good, anyway. Topping it off by reaching the top tier is great.
Shame about his bust up couldn't be got over but, apart from against us, I hope he does well for the toon.
I think Steve McClaren could be very good for Townsend, who as we all recognise, is too predictable. McClaren 's abilities as a manager might be dubious, but he does retain a reputation for being a decent coach, and this could help make this a good move for Andros. I hope it works out for him, there's a talent in there and he's a nice guy who's applied himself really well since he has been banished to the under 21's.
I must say Charlie Daniels looks a real player these days, he is in cracking form and has been a stand out performer for Bournemouth this season.
