There have been some interesting comments about the January transfer window,
Firstly, Simon Hallett said that thinks clubs get poor value when the buy at that time of the year. There's often desperation and players who have just had a purple patch in the Autumn are bought for inflated prices when their longer term performance is less good. The Board will consider proposals but will require detailed statistical evidence that incoming players' track records fit the club's specific needs. I'm glad to see that this level of analysis is being done: it ties in with Hallett's profession of course: you'd hardly buy shares based on just a few months' results, and it's a kind of MoneyBall approach that can find hidden value in players that other clubs don't want but do just the things your team needs. A classic case is Joe Edwards: released by Walsall but a star for us.
Secondly, Ryan Lowe has said that the club already has one recruit for January lined up, subject only to "dotting 'Is and crossing 'T's. It isn't George Cooper, although Lowe says PAFC might be interested if the price is right. In an interesting side note, he says that he's confident Simon Hallett will back him in recruiting players, as the owner has backed him "one million percent" since Lowe arrived. Now, if I've told you once Ryan, I've told you a billion times, don't exaggerate.
