I never thought I the day, I would hear a suggestion that Bournemouth should sign one of our crown jewels. How far we have plunged!
I did wonder if Brighton might loan him out this month - and if so, then to which team. He's a quality player. Ipswich are doing well with the loan market. He'll be their fourth loan.
Looks like a few more interesting days to come. Prepared for anything at the moment, at least something is happening, too late probably, but it would be nice to see our the rest of the season with a better skilled, fitter and more committed squad.
I think we are just trimming the squad as much as possible to save on wages. I think 1 or 2 more might be sold or loaned out in the next week.
I'm not really sure what people were expecting this window. We are in an impossible position to get any sort of value in terms of players coming in. We are going down. Good players don't want to join unless it's for £££ and splurging on loans or giving contracts to players without significant relegation clauses is just economic suicide. I could see us trying to maximise value for a KWP etc but then going down with a record low points total doesn't do us any favours for next season either. Keep this squad. Try to get them playing to his pattern and finding any sorts of lasting combinations and then go from there. summer a far more important window.
Exactly. Anyone we buy is only coming here because: - They are down our list of preferred targets in that position - We are down their list in terms of preferred destinations If they come here, it's because they couldn't find a better deal. I'm perfectly content to spend no money now and bank it for the summer and the new manager. Loans with an option to buy like Grønbæk make sense, as does a PL loan punt. But please, no more Onuachu/Sulemana panic deals
Indeed. If Juric had come in, completely turned things around and won 2 or 3 games by now then maybe there'd be a case for rolling the dice. As it is there's no point. Ship out as many fringe players as we can, maybe look for one or two loans who can improve the squad and then see where we are in the summer. Some of those summer signings are just baffling in retrospect. Charlie Taylor has played over 150 Premier League games but barely got on the pitch. Lallana is clearly incapable of playing more than a bit part. Brereton-Diaz did nothing. Cornet was presumably a last minute panic loan almost for the sake of filling that loan slot. All barely used by Martin. And now the new manager clearly doesn't rate Archer or Fraser. On the plus side at least Spors has worked in recruitment. If he does come in he'll surely be an improvement on what's been going on recently.
That's more like it. If someone wants to spend £55m on a kid that, whilst looks as though he has a very bright future, has only started about 15 league games then fair enough. He is clearly planning on leaving in the summer anyway.
I agree that Diaz was a bad signing in retrospect - I had hoped for so much more. But nothing has surprised me where Fraser, Taylor, Lallana and Cornet are concerned. They all seemed highly questionable signings at the time, and I wasn't keen on any of them.
