Maresca being asked about recalling Ugo or Andrey Santos as Lavia and Fernandez injured, he said no but didn’t sound like it was too convincing. Basically said doesn’t know at this stage how long the injuries will be. He also was non committal when asked about Chalobah being recalled then recalled him. Might be part of the reason we recalled Charles
I think we need to get some experience in the squad so that there is no beating Derby record but I still hope we get a decent war chase for the promotion push next season.
Experience is sorely missing in this team. There’s nothing wrong with getting an aging PL veteran, this club badly needs leaders. We are so so far away from anyone being close to a JWP, let alone a Fonte or VVD. Everyone is either young or far too meek to be considered a leader. Our experience, or at least experience at this club, comes mainly from Bednerak and Stephens. So it’s **** experience.
Issue is going to be his contract having 2 years left. Can’t really see a scenario where he is a Saints player next season (maybe we sell him with some sort of agreement to loan him back but I’d imagine if the buying club wanted to loan him out there would be PL interest). Said before I think £40m would be about right considering the contract situation, so Leipzig are about £15m short. If there is as much interest as being reported then we might even be able to get more than £40m. Can see him at someone like Everton/West Ham
I'll be a little surprised if he moves abroad. If Chelsea was too much for him at 16 then moving to another country at 18 or 19 doesn't seem like the most obvious move.
Yeah, having so many teams interested may well suit us. I would think £40mill with addtional clauses plus a hefty sell on clause is the minimum we'll consider at this stage. We missed out on Bale - we simply must have a good sell on percentage with Dibling.
He came back from Chelsea because he was home sick, no way is he moving to Germany just 2 years later. Regarding his contract, is it 2 years remaining from the end of this season? If so, we should be able to get around £50m, similar to what we got for Lavia.
With Chelsea, it was more to do with the size of Chelsea's youth set up. It will be a different matter when moving into someone else's first team squad.
He should, genuinely, take a look at Jack Grealish. I'm not a huge fan of Grealish, but him spending a season in the championship with Villa was the best move for him in the long run ... I think Dibling would be a similar path, to be honest
I'd accept a lower fee if it includes a season's loan back to us. He's not ready for one of the bigger clubs yet anyway imo.
Yes but that would mean him only having a year left on his contract. Unless he signs a new deal, we're not turning down 50mill.
We had a good sell on with Bale, unfortunately we went skint and had to cash it in. I don’t really buy the “homesick” thing. World of difference moving as a youth player playing in the u18s with 100 other players like at Chelsea and missing the individual touch he got at Saints and moving as a signing for the first team. I think the Chelsea experience will have taught him not to rush to a big club where he won’t be playing atm, hence why I see a move to a mid table side where he will play regularly being likely
Yeah, we got Forecast plus a bit of cash in exchange for taking out the sell on clause. Spurs really played on our desperation there - which is why we should tell them to get ****ed when they ask about Dibling.
There’s a part of me that thinks he may be a bit fragile too. I know he’s still young but we do seem to be handling him with kid gloves a bit. Can’t help thinking he may end up a bit like Luke Shaw so selling him while his stock is high may be better. Hope I’m wrong for his sake though.
