Helps when you’ve got some actual quality on the bench to bring on as well, that was the one thing we distinctly lacked last season due to our pile of injuries. Norman, Miley, Wilson and Willockinho coming back will only improve things even more. Won’t be long until Wilson’s back on the treatment table like but at least it will allow EH to rest Isak now and then for a while.
Think we have been lucky in the main. We could quite easily lost all three games. We have not played well at all. The tactics have been poor. That said I take the results and with a pinch of salt accept them. But we played far better last season and I feel a shift in our Intensity is our identity model. Maybe that’s to avoid injuries.
At what point on Sunday were our tactics poor? We protected our slow back line by playing fairly deep, then hit a high back line on the break, and won... Wasn't pretty, but we won.
In all three games our tactics were poor. We sat deep in all three games. Maybe to protect the back 4 but we have not played a good game yet. We basically got lucky in all three games in the PL.
Good teams usually win playing well most of the time. This phenomenon will see the notion behind thread dismantled soon enough.
On another day and if they had a player who could hit a barn door they would have scored 4/5. That second half first half hour we just sat back at home and allowed them to play around us. What was the tactic? It’s my opinion that the tactics were poor and we got away with one. We got extremely lucky.
The anti-Newcastle media say our performances are unsustainable and we'll soon start losing. If it was Man Utd or another of the cartel 6 they'd say the sign of a good team is getting results when not playing well. **** them, let them sleep on us. This feels similar to the season we finished 4th so far.
Just because you don't like the way we played, doesn't mean the tactics were poor. They clearly weren't... Yes, we've not set the world alight in our 3 games so far - but - we played most of game 1 with 10 men, forcing a specific style. Game 2 - not the easiest place to go, it wasn't the best performance but in the end we had the chances to win. Valuable point on the road. Game 3 - we have no need to discuss. They are tricky and pacy. We have a very slow, makeshift, makeshift defence. They play a ludicrously high line, without their paciest CB... Eddie got the tactics right. Ange, not so much. We also should have had a penalty. 3 games in. 2 wins and a draw. Undefeated. Best start to the season for years and some are unhappy with the tactics (the manner in which we are playing, basically), when we've a seriously depleted CB roster and have to adapt. Everyone's opinion is valid and valued and all that ****... But I don't agree with you that we've got the tactics wrong so far this season at all.
A good article on the tactics for Sunday https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5739125/2024/09/02/joelinton-newcastle-tottenham-premier-league/
