well either way you look at it to get there :

You either beat a lot of teams to win the FA cup ( possible you could have had an easy cup run ) .

    Are the champions .

    were nearly the champions.

It's really important to taste victory, how else will you know that you are any good? The problem with not winning is the fear and doubt settles in, and when you should be winning you end up losing. There has been a few times when this has happened to us, but after winning back to trophies, we can hopefully put this behind us and play with the handbrake off!

    Roll on the new season!

I think this thread and developing a winning mentality thread should be merged. Oh and its great that we sold Verm to Barca and not Manure.

Winning also increases the desire to win again. It's difficult to desire something when you don't know what it tastes like, but once you have tasted, you crave that taste again.

Just to remind you that most teams that go on to win the league win a smaller cup before hand......
Man United won the League Cup in 92 before going on to dominate
Chelsea won the League Cup in 2005 which spurred us on to win the league that season with a record points total
Man City won the FA Cup the season before their 2012 league win.

Winning the FA or League cup can give teams a taste of success and spur them on to better things.
On the other hand it can just be a one off and lead to nothing *cough* Spurs in 2008.*cough*

Spurs did have a successful time after that win, they went on to finish 4th twice in three years, thats basically their glory period, and something for them to be proud about. I can just imagine HIAG or spurs disciple telling the grandkids about the glory days of finishing 4th twice in three years, it will be there 'i was there moment'

    I was just thinking.

Nobody has mentioned the fact Giroud just scored his first goal against a TOP 5 side.

With Sanchez in the squad and Walcott soon to return, plus the emergence of Sanogo there is a very real chance Giroud could loose his place in the team if he doesn't perform.

This might be the impetus he needs to push on and raise his game a level.

Sure, but it was a bit of a goal out of nothing. He could try that a hundred times and probably never score from there again ... the commentator said it himself: "He has no business scoring from there".

I'd be happier if I saw him getting in the right positions at the right times rather than scoring a wonder goal from 25 yards out. The former will result in more goals over the course of a season.

That goal will be great for his confidence though. One of the things Giroud did well last season was being in the right position and creating the chances for himself. It was his finishing that let him down. But do you remember that goal towards the end of the season, I can't remember against who at the moment. But it was a class act as good as the goal yesterday. He brought the ball down from a long pass a la' Van Persie and then buried it.

Actually I was pretty happy to see him shooting from distance.

One of my biggest issues with Giroud in the 'big games' has always been his reluctance to 'pull the trigger'.

I'm thinking all this competition in our side is going to have a good influence on him.

Spurs fans have been claiming for the last 24 hours that the community/charity shield is not really a trophy, yet their own official website has it classed as a major honour lol

It's not the first time they've contested the official version of reality. Their own website told the history of the club that originally laid name to Hotspur, which predated THFC - but they still wouldn't have it. <laugh>
