I would always play two out and out wingers in my team, provided of course that they are willing to work back when required. Therefore, I would start Hoillet and Phillips when fit. Look at the difference that Phillips made against Sunderland.

What do others think?

The problem with Hoilett is that he's ****.

agreed, Dave Thomas got it right. Always chalk on his boots and socks rolled down! That's how to be a winger!!
They should emulate him,

It helps if the 1 winger can chop and change wings and play on either side comfortably........oh and he has to be able to score some important goals as well.......:emoticon-0140-rofl:

Phillips has always looked like a good player lacking in confidence IMO. Hoilett has been here for nearly three years and has barely crossed the ball to a QPR player or run five yards without losing the ball. If Ramsey can get a tune out of him then he is the messiah.

I think there's no one formula that works every time. You have to adjust based on who you're playing and what players are available. Sometimes it's about balance. You might decide one who to play LM and RM based on who is available in the middle or up front. A football team is a dynamic thing!

I still think Hoilett can do a job for us but he is the kind of player that needs to be used in the right way. Fair enough, he's not that adaptable. Hoilett is actually not really a winger by trade, I believe. He prefers to play centrally, behind the striker/s.

Another problem with Hoilett is that he is right footed. And so is Phillips. Neither of them are great at crossing with their left, so where do you put them if they play at the same time? I'd rather have Taarabt or Krancjar on the left because they can use both feet or cut in.

Although his cross to Richard Keogh worked out rather nicely at Wembley.

Ok, I'd settle for Taarabt on the left ahead of Hoillet and Krancjar in Fer's (rightful) place.

So would you always play 4-4-2 then if you want two wingers always?
 
I hate wingers. And moaners. And serial complainers. Always going on and on and on and on...

...and on and on and on.

God I hate them.

I have never seen him play anywhere except on the wing. He played there at Blackburn whenever I saw him. I heard he played well pre-season in a central role. But I think his inability to finish a run with a pass to colleague, and his not too lethal shooting, would make him even more out of position in the middle, than he is as a winger. For me he's got to relearn the basics of passing to play anywhere for us again.
