Off Topic Wine, not whine

Funny how you can picnic in community stadiums in Italy whilst ours is locked off to members of the community.

I know. I suppose the clubs in England would just say it’s a security thing, but as long as people are checked on the way in(which we were in Italy) then it would be a no problem. Would be a great way to make best use of the stadium and make people feel part of the club.

P.s I own about 8 fiorentina scalves, two shirts and they are my 2nd club. I’ve been to see them play more than I have been to see city in the last 3 years. Treat fans properly and they will come. We all know what happens when you alienate them.

Always followed their fortunes since we played them in the 70s. Their fans show you don't need a roof to create atmosphere. And the sight lines are atrocious.

One to look out for; chilled Riesling goes with most food better than any other wine. Look for higher alcohol (12% or so) as it is much less sweet. Swirl around the glass and a slight whiff of petrol should lift off the wine. You don't taste it, but it is reassuring of a classic Riesling. Aldi's version is crap, much as I like some of their other wines.

I once tried wine tasting for the vicar. I couldn't decide between wine numbers, a, b or c. So, I tried them again, number 1, number 2, and number c. I don't remember which one was best.

Since no one was overly helpful I took one for the team and tried their wine myself at a ‘meet the producer’ wine tasting evening tonight

Really nice.

I thought the red would be a bit light for me, but it was really nice

White was very delicate (Sauvignon maybe, but not Marlborough)

Rose was fruity but not too sweet

Sparkling Rose was very nicely indeed, very drinkable

Recommended

£14 for wine £25 for sparkling

Cheers dbt, I shall take a trip on your recommendation. Sparkles are very well reccomended In Britain, so will make sure I get a taste (even at 25 a bottle). Just enjoying a Chenin Blanc as I speak, with a bit of the national on Spotify, very decent evening indeed. Sad lonely married man that I am. Bye the way I am going to get myself onto your next trip to scarbs. Will be the first footy game I will go to in a while (I’m a boycotter).

She brought 14 different variants down for a tasting once and demonstrated the differences in some of the very best examples. She took some time to point out the variation in "nose", amongst them was one bottle which was distinctly petrol-like. The top (hugely expensive) bottle was an Eiswein from New York State. Recently we asked her about wine in general and she commented that her favourite wines were Italian - surprisingly honest admission for a French woman.

Had a bottle of Eiswein once.

Too sweet and syrupy. Interesting method of making it but hey ho, give me some Ernie Gallo every time.

I know this is drifting off mark, but the Italians do a good line in craft beer (Birra Rosso). It rarely makes it out of Italy and isn’t easy to find in Italy itself. Just look out for backstreet bars with hipsters (same as here).

I saw a few Irish bars there but there is also an pub called The Albert so you should feel right at home there.
But i would also endorse the advice on the birra rosso and doppio malto.
You could try them first from Waitrose.

She certainly loves her work and travels the world judging. She actually started out as a secretary at a local wine merchants and it was there that they discovered her great abilities as a taster. Funnily enough, in response to Barchullona's comment, outside of work she's never been a drinker - maybe that's what makes her so good. Having said that though, she uses the garage as a wine cellar at home and reckons she has around 1500 bottles in store at any time.

That's good news - I've just ordered a mixed case to split up for Christmas presents. I'm hoping there's some left over for us to try.
