It would actually go along way to completely screwing up Derby manager Paul Clements game plan. Nevermind anything else........

Steve Bruce resists loan window option to bring in players – or send out

HULL City boss Steve Bruce will resist the temptation to complete any late business ahead of tomorrow evening's loan deadline, despite losing captain Michael Dawson for up to a month through injury.

A week after seeing David Meyler ruled out for up to eight weeks with knee ligament damage, Dawson has been condemned to a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring tear suffered in the weekend's 1-1 draw at Bristol City.

The injury setbacks deprive Bruce of two influential figures for a busy spell of fixtures but the decision has been made not to strengthen during the final hours of the emergency loan window.

The fit-again pairing of Curtis Davies and Alex Bruce, along with Harry Maguire, will be trusted to fill the void left by the ever-present Dawson, who could be back in Championship action by the time the Tigers host Bolton Wanderers on December 12.

City's strength in depth has crafted a 13-game unbeaten run ahead of facing promotion rivals Derby County on Friday night, and Bruce will be content to keep faith in his current squad until the New Year.

"I wouldn't be doing my job if I wasn't aware of what is out there and what could be out there, but I'm absolutely delighted with the squad we've got," said Bruce.

"I don't really see a weakness in us, touch wood, so I can't envisage us doing anything. I'm not sure there's anyone out there who could really make us any stronger.

"There's a couple of younger players we're looking at in the lower divisions that may happen in time but I can't see much happening at the moment."

Bruce has already admitted an interest in Accrington Stanley playmaker Josh Windass, son of Dean, and York City midfielder Ben Godfrey as he monitors a handful of youngsters in League One and Two ahead of the January window.

A more pressing concern for the Tigers boss is the development of rookie striker Greg Luer.

City have debated sending the 20-year-old out on loan to gain first-team experience and several clubs, including Peterborough and Stevenage, have lodged enquiries over a potential loan deal.

Luer was again on the mark as the Tigers' under-21s drew 2-2 at Birmingham on Monday afternoon, his fifth goal in six outings for Tony Pennock's side, and was again City's 19th man for the trip to Bristol City on Saturday.

Suspensions for Dawson and Andy Robertson are likely to invite Luer back on to the bench for Friday's clash with Derby and another chance in the Capital One Cup could come at Manchester City in next Tuesday's quarter-final.

"It's a difficult one with Greg," added Bruce. "I had a conversation with Mick (Phelan, assistant manager) last week about whether he's benefiting more training with a good team or if he should go and learn his trade in the lower leagues.

"I'm erring towards him staying with us but there's a bit of me that enjoys watching someone like him playing week in and week out."

It'd be best for Luer to go out on a short term loan for me, he'll play in the league cup and make the bench here and there but surely a month of playing in L1 or L2 would be better for him?

I think we'll probably review it in January, but on Friday we can't name seven subs without him and we've got the cup game to come, it's only just over a month before the window opens anyway.
