Well the closest he has come was scoring against Everton and having it wrongly called offside. Had the officials got it right he would already have scored for us. He was unlucky against Wigan not to score with his header into the ground and in the second half he had a great snap shot that the keeper pushed over the bar. He seems to lack composure in front of goal and seems to just hit it. I'm hoping that's something that he can work on with experience. Prior to coming to us he has done well in his career and a friend of mine who watches a lot of French football reckoned we had got a real unpolished gem with him. So I'm still hoping he will come good. He's only had a few chances in the team so I'm not ready to judge him yet, he may or may not be good enough. I'd like to see more of him because he has size and pace and if he can prove his finishing is better than what it looks so far he could be a very useful player. I'm happy for him to be our third choice striker next season while we get a better look at him in the cup competitions.
I certainly think Sanogo can get to Demba Ba level. Wether he improves technically enough to become better than that I dont really know. He's young and a great athlete so definitely worth keeping. Could turn into a complete beast If Wenger can improve his finishing and first touch.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sanogo makes Giroud look World class. That's how bad he is.
I think that is a bit unfair. I missed the game because I travelling home from Staffordshire. I did however managed to watch the whole game this morning on ITV Player. I thought Sonogo played ok, he is a bit of a raw talent, carrying the weight of an Arsenal on his shoulder. I think he will come good, Giroud even though good, I doubt can improve beyond what we have already seen. The only thing negative on Yaya is his poor first touch...... I don't know if you can improve on that past 18?
Poor first touch. Poor finishing. Poor heading. Poor control. There really isn't much going for him, except that he can run.
I think the others can be improved, (maybe not his first touch) it is all about positioning and awareness for a striker. I remember a certain Andy Cole who played for us in one pre-season game, he missed a hatful of chances in that game..... Next season he was farmed out to Bristol City.... My point is that he did improve. I think the ingredients are there for Yaya, whether he would be given the opportunity is another issue. Our fans have become so tetchy now, and it is understandable.
Andy Cole always had the ability. He was shipped out because he was caught nicking money out of the players wallets in the changing room.
I know that they play in different positions but Sanogo reminds me of Ryan Babel. He's got all the equipment but something doesn't quite click. But give him his due babel did pop a few in for us - just not as many as he should.
I feel sorry for Sanogo. He's very young, only just returned from a horrific injury and being expected to perform in a new league, with a new team, in a new country and at a much higher level. He's performed at French youth international football so I think he needs time. I'm certain that there's no way Wenger would have used him were it not for NB52 being such an utter re-tard. He'd have been eased into things very slowly rather than being thrown in at the deep end/dropped off a cliff!
Give the boy a chance, really ludicrous judging him after 2-3 starts. I think it is early days yet. Fans never cease to amaze me, I remember Spud fans saying they never win when Bale plays, well @86mill seems Madrid got a bargain. Even Ronaldo, people saying he was a 1-trick pony, the list goes on and on...
Completely agree, can't believe some people think they have a totally formed view of the lad already in such limited time. Let's give him a proper season at least.
I had to laugh at ITV comm Clive Tyldseley when he said Sanogo had been picked to start in some big games of late and that was reflection of how highly he is rated. More a reflection of the lack of depth at Arsenal. Having said that when I first saw Henry for France at 98 he couldn't hit a barn door. Come to think of it, maybe that is Wenger's plan here, to win with having a recognised striker like France in 98. Might work if we had a Petit, Zidane, ...
