Ajax about to lose Eriksen, so any forlorn hope about replacing Cabs with De Jong has all but gone.

Jeezus. Spurs are now about to bring in Lamela and Christian Eriksen to add to Capoue, Soldado, Chiriches, Chadli and Paulinho. Hard not to cast envious glances towards North London when we're "pleased" to bring in Remy for 9 months. Our outlay has been around £350k. Given the operating profit and TV deal, we're supposed to have around £70m+ to spend.

Now that Lyon are out of the Champions League and Chelsea look like they're going to bring Eto'o in, it'll be interesting to see how it affects possible moves for Gomis and Ba.

Lyon could barely afford to keep him when they were still in the CL qualifiers. They have to sell now. I'm guessing an "improved" offer of £7m (so that the million we save can pay agents) will be accepted. Marseille's the only question mark.

As for Ba, no idea why Chelski want or need £3m. Seems to be just taking the p1$$, which is worse considering how it was them who benefited from his freaking release clause. Happily pay £3m for a year's worth of Lukaku, mind....

I discussed this with mate today. The different approaches at board level since we were at a similar level to Spurs 3 seasons ago. Obviously they have a history of investment even before then that we didn't, and we over achieved, but from that moment on we've been bi polar in our approaches. You look at this summer alone and whilst you might say "yeah but Bale is funding it all" but they are spending and were before the Bale situ arose. It looks like they'll have signed Chiriches, Capoue, Paulinho, Eriksen, Lamela, Soldado, Chadli and maybe even Vadillo by the end of the summer. That is impressive.

On that subject rumours that they are loaning out/offloading Sigurdsson and Holtby. I'd take one or both :D

    Would anyone take Troy Deeney?

Know's where the net is, big and strong. Would cost about 5 million I guess. I'd personally be happy to take a punt on him but it's not really our style.

Arguably only a one season wonder, though. Historically at Halesowen? Doesn't seem like a player one should be punting £5m on. We definitely won't.

We'll do nothing now til Monday. We never do anything in the build up to a match, never do anything the day after either. We'll be doing the odd thing on Monday, though not chasing all and sundry, but if there's no-one "over the line" then it'll be another January spree for the Toon.

Deeney is a big risk. I'd have been all for Austin or Rhodes. Both have proven goalscoring records. I just feel Deeney doesn't really have that behind him. It may be he has just come of age but I'd fear a Beckford situation.

If we don't sign anyone today or there is no big movement such as medical announced etc then we won't sign anyone.

Under Ashley I don't think we've ever signed a player on deadline day.

As a club I never remember seeing us sign someone the day before the match.

I don't get why especially as Pards clearly has sod all to do with it! Am sure Pards and the team do not need JFK and Lee Charnley at the game!

Hey, I agree with you, doesn't make a lick of sense. But it really is beyond ridiculous now. From the 4th August and the mouth of Joe Kinnear to Sky Sports:

"I'm well aware that everyone is concerned (about the lack of transfers) and rightly so, but I'm not dragging my heels in any manner," he added.
"I'm being sensible about the budget I have got and am going to spend it as wisely as I can - I keep (manager) Alan (Pardew) well informed and have regular meetings."

"We are fighting hard," he told Sky Sports News.
"There are two or three of us (clubs) all seemingly to be wrapped around the same players and, as I have said to Mike, it is a serious battle that we need to win and we are very close to achieving that.
"There are always extra add-ons, always an extra thing and always an extra problem and then there is always the problem of competition from other teams.
"Whatever I have offered more or less goes public and of course that alerts other people that are interested, they tweak it and add a little bit more and we are in that sort of war at the moment.
"I'm waiting for a nod, on which the goalposts have moved on numerous occasions, to bring in a couple of strikers."

The only two I can remember on deadline day were Xisco and Gonzales, who least said of the better.
Santon was late in the window on 30th August.
Normally we treat deadline as a Bank Holiday and have the day off, so I'm not expecting much.

So we probably won't bring in anyone today, def not tomorrow, so that leaves two days. Jesus wept, I can't believe we are literally days away from the end of the transfer window and with have brought in one Loanee. Its madness bordering on Premiership suicide.

Kuqi was January transfer window. But we left that until 2nd week of Feb and he signed as a free agent outside of window.

In the "nearly signed" category on deadline day we have N'Zogbia, Ruiz, Kieran Richardson, Michael Johnson...anyone think of any others???
