During a period where the club needed stability and points Zamora was a great asset. The defenders could just lump it up field, when under pressure, in the knowledge that half the time it wasn't coming straight back. In terms of playing with his chest, he was the best I've ever seen- he could divert a 60 yard ball into the right spot with one flick of the shoulder. Ultimately however this led to us becoming a bit one-dimensional. We were good on the floor up front, but only after it had been lumped up to him. If the other team took Zamora out the game (and therefore Duff) we came undone. Against top opposition this wasn't too difficult.

I feel we can start to develop a more fluid style with a more advanced midfield. Dembele is the key to this, at the moment anyway. If we introduce some width- and a bit of pace - then we might be able to play with a plan b and c. I think it's going to be a long process though - the current squad will always revert to type when under pressure. It's testament to how much time Hodgson must have spent drilling it into them - to the point where it's like instinct.
