Then I reckon it's Rosberg, Mercedes have been trying to "upgrade" his profile ever since the 2010 season.

As an slight tangent from the topic, why have they never had any drivers from other motorsports do a lap? As far as I can remember they've never had anyone other than F1 drivers. They should try drivers from the BTCC, WRC, GP2 etc.

I guess as the stig ussually comes from one of those categories. Also F1 is the Pinnacle!!

It's not that kind of show, really. I doubt Top Gear's audience would have a clue who drivers from those categories are. It's mostly TV celebrities, remember. F1 drivers are household names.

Surely Top Gear viewers are mainly petrol heads? I think they'd know the drivers, provided they didn't get 'Joe Backmarker' who hardly ever finishes a race. When I've watched it (which admittedly hasn't been recently), I don't know some of the 'celebrities' they've had on.

Actually, having said that, it's not really a motoring program any more, it's more just a bloated waste of licensees money now! They're too interested in repeating the same old jokes and travelling to far off countries, pretending that they've driven some amazing journey that hasn't been scripted at all.

Ok, scrap that idea!

even Yuji Ide?
The drivers they invite onto Top Gear are - the ones Byron Young writes about.

Spot on. I'm not sure motorsports fans would watch Top Gear, if that's what we mean by petrolheads, nor car enthusiasts. It's just a vehicle for three LCD bigots who have managed to find a niche in the blind spot between magazine TV and Chris Tarrant's O.T.T.

Schumacher probably is the new stig.
Thus the reason he hasn't set a proper time yet as it might clash with the "stig's" time.

I suspect it will be Vettel. He's the reigning world champion, and drives for a british based team, so he spends a lot of time over here.

With regards the lack of drivers from other race series', I think they've had quite a few on the show, but never as a feature.

Whenever they try a ridiculous race series, caravans, lorries, etc, they've nearly always used BTCC drivers as the rest of the field, I think Matt Neal has been on three or four times at least, and others have too. They never get an interview though, so I guess the BBC must deem them not well-known enough, however much we disagree.

And the answer is..............Fernando Alonso!!!

No not really it is Sebastian Vettel.

awwww I would like to have seen Alonso and clarkson getting on awkwardly after all the eyebrow jokes of the past.

Seems to be Sebastian Vettel?

Wouldnt have expected that.
